PayPal says it will no longer do business with Infowars, the website founded by conspiracy theorist Alex Jones.

PayPal informed Infowars of its decision in an email on Thursday, reportedly stating the company had completed a review of Infowars content and concluded that it “promoted hate and discriminatory intolerance against certain communities and religions,” which violates PayPal’s "acceptable use" policy.

PayPal has become the main internet cash conduit for a lot of things such as organizations like Infowars. I could not have my store on eBay without this easy way to move money between my customers & my checking account. This might come as a blow to Alex Jones et al.

He’ll have to start taking bitcoin.

I don't agree with PayPal but they are within their rights to discriminate. I do see a growing trend of political speech being ignored as something protected.

I'm curious if this story was about FedEx telling the actu that their business was not welcome if those celebrating pay pals decision would stand with FedEx as well.

There's a culture of selectiviness that I am uncomfortable with.

great to see lefties backing businesses that dont serve people based on their ideology. So much for your support of gays being able to get gay wedding cakes.

its not uncommon for companies that have polices in place for thier own business conduct to drop partnerships and or service to others that are not in line with those practices as long as its legal.

paypal is free to conduct business in this manner since they are a private service and as long as it wasn't illegal discrimination which its not according to anything i have read so far.

The culture of lies and conspiracy theories being perpetrated by sites such as infowars should be making everyone uncomfortable. Making stuff up to further your political agenda should be suppressed.

LOL, you're barking up the wrong tree, we're not the ones Trump loves.

Donald Trump declares 'I love the poorly educated'

Interesting case with Pay Pal. Do you think they should be allowed to not serve a business like Alex Jones?
Poorly educated and intelligence are two different things. Dems by default are dems because they dont think correctly. Intelligent people would never have run Hillary. You complain about Trump yet hes President because of your unintelligent choice of candidates.

And Trump. Trump is a big believer in Alex Jones' conspiracy theories.
Nuts have a right to their opinions too, if they didnt, the left would be screwed.

This is something I get jammed on. I'm a proponent of moderation. Smoke pot, drink beer, chase women, eat food, etc..... within reason, no biggie. If it goes too far it crosses into dangerous.

Flip side
Set limits and boundaries that are too extreme, it's equally as destructive.

We have to find a reasonable place to draw the line.

I don't have a good solution but the problem is obviou

I agree that Paypal is within their right but I find it incredibly troubling. There aren't a lot of options in the payment processing world. It's basically the Visa and Mastercard networks, Paypal and a few smaller players like Venmo. They could, if they desired, make a huge dent in an online organization's ability to do business if not put them out of business outright. Imagine if Visa or Mastercard told Clinton or Trump in 2016 that they wouldn't process donation payments for them.

I'm generally not a fan public accomodation laws. I think there's enough competition in most markets that forcing someone to do business with someone they don't want to (for whatever reason) is completely unnecessary. A near monopolistic market like payment processing seems to be a good candidate for a general public accomodations law.

Spell check altered my post. My example was if FedEx refused service to the aclu. Legal briefs are almost exclusively their domain. It would be incredibly inconvenient for them to yank their service

I know very little about online banking laws & regulations but I sometimes feel that PayPal has too much power that they can use to a customer's disadvantage. Even though they are now a separate business from eBay, they still have a VERY close relationship.

I had sold on eBay an expensive night vision binocular to a collector who immediately started complaining that it was missing some screws. Then he broke it & demanded a refund, despite the fact that I have a stated policy that I don't accept returns, PayPal froze my account for the amount that was in this guy's claim. It was very aggravating & I wound up losing some hundreds of dollars. Now I sell everything as a collectible, for parts only or not working. Period.
