Is it just me or do predominately white areas get better hurricane relief than areas of color?

Through Katrina and Harvey and then Maria and Florence, it seems that areas that are predominately white (meaning not New Orleans and Puerto Rico) seems to get much more proactive action from the feds and much more swift action in the aftermath, whereas areas of color like Puerto Rico and New Orleans seem to be left to rot. It's completely inexcusable how long Puerto Rico went without power and how many died.

Does it really matter or are the overarching issues really the talking points and the actual issues of concern. The whole "nothing to see regarding Climate Change" crowd is getting a real reality check here. But of course they still live in "nothing to see world" or is that actually nothing to SeaWorld. Is the Trump economy really big upticks in mobile home sales with people taking their insurance checks, too small to rebuild, too many flooded out from areas outside of floodplains and without flood insurance left with no option but stick a mobile home in the driveways in front of where their houses used to be waiting for the bank to just toss them off the property?

More financial deregulation coming just in time to make it easier for Wall St crooks to set us up for another financial disaster.

Trump science is what we have now. Trump science focuses on keeping the bathroom door closed when using aerosol hair spray. "It just can't have an impact with the door closed". Trump science uses weather to discuss climate.....duhhhhhh!!!! Trump science??? There is no Trump science. Just more Trump nonsense and more gibberish as the SouthEast faces another monster in Michael. The new Trump mantra...."gurgle....gurgle....gurgle".

That crowd no longer has to worry about dodging the political bullet of Climate Change denial to go along with Russian Election Interference denial. Now they have to worry about dodging the actual and real physical consequences of Climate Change denial and Trump Science......"gurgle....gurgle....gurgle".

North and South Carolina, two strongholds of Trump nonsense and Trump gibberish probably end up getting their heads just enough above water from Florence to end up underwater again from Michael moving up from the gulf.....gurgle....gurgle....gurgle. But how bout' that Trump economy eh.....Its so good that the coastline is moving inland with new recipients of the Trump economy soon to be reveling in their newfound beachfront property. How bout' that! Trump will probably recommend the same thing there that he recommended to North Korea. "Lets put up some hotels". That is until the new Trump mantra hits there as well....gurgle....gurgle....gurgle.

As was the case with the Mississippi coast after Katrina, the predominantly white areas don't wait for the government to come do things for them. They start cleaning up and rebuilding on their own and get it all accomplished much faster as a result. That's my impression, anyway.

As for Puerto Rico, you can decry how long it's taking, but you can't show that it could have been done better. There are difficulties in Puerto Rico that are not found in other American disaster areas, the distance across the water to get there being a big one.

Its you. But how does one observe "areas of color". Do you drive around and say theres a lot of colored people here or do you review stats of people who do it?

To drive around some of these places you will need an amphibious vehicle. "The new Ford Trumpmobile...Best way to get to what used to be your home!"

One of many reasons such areas suffer more is that the occupants are poor. They can't afford to evacuate. They don't have the car, the gas, or even the fare, assuming they could get their belongings on a bus in the first place.

One of the features of New Orleans was the degree to which the citizens had been conditioned to be completely dependent on the government. Thus they sat around and waited to be evacuated by buses that never showed up (because the government workers abandoned them), they sat around and waited for relief, and they sat around and waited for the government to clean up and rebuild. Meanwhile, in other parts of the disaster area people were cleaning up without waiting for the government to show up.

Evacuating costs money. When you don's have any because you live paycheck to paycheck, you can't afford to go anywhere, or pay for accommodation. You have to be home to go to work ASAP when the storm passes, your job depends on it. How do you clean up when you're drowned?

The only conclusion one can make from Donald and is Climate Change deniers is that they are ignorant as fenceposts....dangerously so.

exactly where would those buses have taken the evacuees

We could agree with you or you could agree with us. It would make no difference in terms of what happens with the climate.

You completely discount the possibility of charity. We lived through a big storm recently on the Gulf Coast. The amount of money and resources that poured in through churches and other charities out to the poor people and others without housing was staggering. Supplies, materials, food, etc. came rolling in on one tractor-semitrailer after another. A big warehouse was filled up with donated relief supplies and emptied out several times, and that was just one example.

To any of a number of refugee centers north of the city.

which refugee centers specifically
i ask because there were none
but prove me wrong

Black neighborhoods in new orleans were on an island?

No, they were not on an island....which makes it even more strange as to why they stayed when they were given five days of notices telling them a cat five storm was heading their way.

You think there were no refugee centers for Katrina?

there were no established centers to receive the NO refugees
buses would have been filled with refugees with no where to go
good job, brownie

There were no "established" centers to receive refugees from Ike or Harvey, either. The centers appeared the moment they became necessary. Churches, schools, etc. opened their doors ad hoc, and the network of emergency workers organized the whole thing and directed refugees to the appropriate places as they appeared.

Your idea that NO refugees would have nowhere to go is silly.

It is not about race it is about competence.

It's just you.

Actually I think it is more about power and money than areas of white or color. Those areas with more political pull with the party in power get quicker reaction from the government than those with less political pull. The other thing is money. Those with available money are able to rebuild not only sooner, but bigger, making it more profitable for those who do the rebuilding.

your presentation that buses loaded with refugees should just drive without any destination is beyond stupid

Maybe it has a little bit to do with the leadership of those areas. One can hardly consider the Democrat Mayor of "Chocolate City", as he called it, and the Democrat Governor of Louisiana at the time to be stellar leaders in the time of crisis. They both contributed greatly to the added suffering of the people in the aftermath of Katrina. Likewise, in Puerto Rico. Contrast that with the Republican Governor of Florida during recent hurricanes as well as the Republican Governor of Texas. I didn't see you mention the particularly egregious plight of people of color in Florida and Texas - coincidental, or didn't fit your race baiting OP?

Weather knows no color, however, color chooses their political leadership and thus suffers the consequences of those bad choices.
