OK, We all know there are deranged lunatics out there in internet land.
Most are harmless posters who hide behind their keyboards.

However, the fact death threats are mentioned in pretty much 100% of controversial cases, it makes me wonder.

1. How many are real.

2. How many are put up by the victims to simply say they have received them.

3. How many are just politically motivated internet morons venting and just attempting to stir up trouble where there was none before.

I am certain if any one here came under the spotlight of national scrutiny, you might experience the same.
Especially if you took a controversial side on a matter.

So, how many of these reported death threats in this SCOTUS issue does the membership think are true and valid, and how many think more than a few of them were made up.

I think more than a few are made up because they keep pointing to them and mentioning them all the time.
It kinda comes with the territory when you do or say something that tips the apple cart.
I think it is a ploy to get sympathy.

I think one would have to assume every death threat has the possibility of being put into motion.

Sadly there's a lot of sickos out there, but you only have one life - you've got to be safe.

Spot on, as usual.

This is very true. Before moving about 16 months ago, I was acting as a landlords agent over 4 units (they moved out of state and we were their longest and most dependable tenants) I had to evict squatters. One threatened to kill me and the Mrs. I left my .44 loaded until we moved. It was my pleasure to see the sheriff see them off, in the meantime.

Any public figure will have a slew of them.

Meh, its not unusual for death threats to happen in controversial cases. It's because they're controversial that such happens. I have no doubt that it happens. I wouldn't even doubt that it happens a lot. But I would bet that 99.99% of them are just...as you put it... "harmless posters who hide behind their keyboards".

99.99%

"Moron" being the operative word.

Often it's just pansy asses hiding behind a keyboard that lack the guts to follow through with their threats.

I say track em' down, then lock them up in jail for a year or so, and let them threaten the people in there.

I could be wrong, but I think the main issue he was very carefully alluding to and questioning, was how many of those death threats that democrats and Dr. Ford have received, were actually send by people on the political left in an attempt to gain public sympathy, as well as paint both conservatives and Kavanaugh/Trump supporters violent and dangerous people.

Ten years ago the thought that leftists would as a political strategy, manufacture phony hate crimes and make phony death threats in situations like this to smear conservatives, would have never crossed my mind. But things are much different today, especially since the election of Donald Trump. In the last few years there has been an explosion of phony, politically motivated hate crimes being staged and reported by people on the left, designed to smear Trump supporters and conservatives as violent racists who pose a danger to civil society.

Based on the number of false accusations and manufactured incidents we've witnessed over the last few years, anyone who doesn't give that serious consideration when it comes determining the validity of the death threats being received by democrats and those who oppose the political right, is a fool as far as I'm concerned.

Clearly the vast, vast majority of direct or implied threats on-line in these cases are made with absolutely no intention of following through. That’s no reason to dismiss them through – all the threats, and especially a mass of threats, can create the fear in the victims and regardless of the reality of the physical threat. It’s worth noting that making believable threats against someone, even as a “joke”, is a criminal offence in most jurisdictions and rightly so.

It’s difficult to assess or understand the true motive behind them – half the time I suspect the people doing it couldn’t tell you. Some people just seem to get a sick thrill from insulting and attacking others on-line, just an extension of trolling really. Many are likely to be generally politically opposed to whatever got the individual in the public eye but I’m sure some will target pretty much anyone who comes up.

I’ve no doubt some victims, especially politically motivated ones, might make up or exaggerate the nature of threats they receive but that’s somewhat separate and shouldn’t distract from actual attacks and threats received.
I don’t see any valid reason in asking about specific cases since the principles will apply the same regardless. I can think of a couple of invalid reasons though.

The sad thing is you may be right.

The sad thing is you may be right.

you wish

Fact of the matter is that once the Right began tying abortion to the term "murder," the crazies on their side began seeing anyone who supported it as a murderer. And, that is usually where I see most of the unhinged, violent behavior on that side of the aisle.

If I wished then why I would I say that its sad? I don't know about you but I don't wish for sad things.

 Anti-abortionists have ALWAYS considered it murder and those that did it as murderers. This is nothing new. Your attempt at a false equivalency is noted and dismissed.

Tell me, when was the last time that someone on the Right staged a hate crime to make the other side look bad?

Let me make it simple for ya: the death threats are coming from the Right. It's not stealthy Leftists playing four dimensional chess, just like the accusations against the rapist Judge is not a case of "mistaken identity."

The Right needs to own up to the fact that a lot of **** has rolled into their camp.

And the death threats towards Kavanaugh and his family are done by who? Guess **** is rolling down both sides of the camp huh?

And prove that Kavanaugh raped anyone. Oh wait...you can't because there has been no proof offered by Ms. Ford. Just accusations, nothing more.

Funny how you couldn't answer my question though. Well, not really. It was actually expected that you would ignore it.

to answer your question: Seth Rich.

drops mic

You might want to pick that mic up again. Seth Rich actually was murdered. No fake hate crime actually happened.

Here is a fake hate crime that was staged: Woman arrested for making up story about Trump-related hate crime And it was reported on just a few days ago.

I was referring to how the Right makes **** up, and then refuses to admit it makes **** up. Seems to me your example didn't get weeks of 24/7 lefty news coverage like Seth Rich did on Fox.

That is not what was asked for. Try again.

Are you seriously going to pretend that the people who love Trump, respect Trump, worship Trump; and thereby support policies that steal from the poor to give to the rich, shrug at school massacres and support kidnapping migrant babies are not likely to threaten people who disagree with them?

Yeah, it must be Lefties faking the death threats.

Perhaps you should read post 5 before continuing your allegations. I never said that the threats that Feinstein and Ms. Ford were not real. I just agreed that there was a possibility that some of the threats may have been staged as staging hate crimes has been happening by those on the left quite often lately.

Still can't come up with anyone on the right staging hate crimes?

There is a "possibility" that green men are wearing human suits. But, my money is on they are not, kind of like 99% of the death threats are not being made by leftists pretending to be crazed Trumpkins.

The difference between green men wearing human suits and staged hate crimes...one actually exists and has been happening with lots of regularity.

Still can't come up with anyone on the right staging hate crimes?
