Canadian marijuana users, workers and investors risk lifetime border ban

https://www.politico.com/story/2018/09/13/canada-weed-pot-border-783260

Enforcing the existing law in the manner of their choosing instead of finally admitting that it's broken. Lovely.

Here’s exactly how it would work at the border: CBP officials are not planning to go out of their way to interrogate every Canadian traveler about marijuana use. However, other factors may cause them to raise the topic.

Our officers are not going to be asking everyone whether they have used marijuana, but if other questions lead there — or if there is a smell coming from the car, they might ask,” Owen said. Likewise, marijuana residue, which can linger for weeks inside a car, could be detected by CBP inspection dogs and lead to further questioning, he noted. If asked about past drug use, travelers should not lie, he said. “If you lie about it, that’s fraud and misrepresentation, which carries a lifetime ban,” Owen said.

Only idiots smoke weed in their cars. You get pulled over, and test positive for thc you're ****ed - mandatory jail time and end of your career. Only idiots will get turned back at the U.S. border.

It won't be a lifetime ban because the U.S. will collapse.

as will most things. since you are prognosticating, when and how?

I'm not quite the optimist that you are.

Then again it's rained all week here so that might have something to do with my less than sunny disposition today.

this too shall pass. hope that you see some sunny skies soon.

Nothing has changed since 1776 what makes you think it will ever happen?

my opinion is that the pendulum is going to swing as it always does. however, i hope that we never see something as stupid as Trumpism again.

we had 8 years of obama but you are right. that thankfully ended

As a gay man, I would personally like to thank him for his contribution to LGBT Civil Rights, history will be kind to him, even if some idiots in the present would like to question his birth place.

Agreed Capt. And reasonable people can differ about beer [emoji4]. Especially if we’re drinking it while disagreeing.

Well, I'm from Milwaukee so my beer tastes are quite exquisite. We're kind of spoiled beer-wise. I do like some imports.

And, I admit, I've drank my share of commercial/industrial/popular Canadian beer and had a good time. Perhaps, if I could expand my knowledge of more Canadian craft beers, I might gain a new respect.

Wouldn't it be great if the only thing that all the world's nations had to argue about was who made the best beer?

I wish I knew the when. There are several possible "hows", but the most likely is economic collapse, due to the size of the national debt.

Once it's legal in a few weeks, it will likely become commonplace. Canadian winters are cold, and those who don't want to smoke in their house may well retreat to their cars, especially with remote start. :)

AFAIK, there isn't a mandatory jail time, but I could be wrong, citation please? But I agree: Don't smoke and drive!

No, its a big ol' database, with information gathered from all sorts of sources. They will know who works in the industry.

i'm not a huge fan of the debt. i think that we should pay our bills, but apparently, i am a bit behind the times.

We agree on that. Unfortunately, the debt is unpayable at this point. That's why economic collapse is eminent. I'm not just "prognosticating" to be a downer. It's literally unavoidable now.

what do you plan to do during societal collapse?

This is why I don't vote for Republicans.

I brew my own every so often and when I have my son a bottle of one of my first batches to sample he saiad/

“It’s really good. Tastes just like Bud.”

Hours of research and work and weeks of waiting and I made Bud. Oh well.

I'm not going to look it up. I know there is mandatory jail time for a DUI. An extended family member of mine found this out first hand (alcohol, but it's still a DUI if you're under the influence).

The article didn't say anything about border patrol agents using a database. It stated that the agents root out the info via inquiries and if the travelers are stupid, have smoked weed in their vehicles, or admit for some insane reason that they produce or sell M.J. they'll get nailed. Most frequent border crossing folks will have a Nexus card and will get waived through anyway, just like I do at the airport with TSA Precheck privileges.

I stand by my original opinion. You'd have to be an idiot to fall victim to getting busted at our border for weed-related issues.

I hear ya. I was just thinking along similar lines about my little raised garden. I spent hundreds of dollars, gallons of water and many man-hours growing about 20 dollars worth of vegetables.

Now, I'm thinking, why bother? Life's too short.

A lot of times now it's a 24 hour roadside suspension, at least in BC. That's why I was wondering if the laws were going to be different for weed.

AFAIK, they look everyone up in the computer.

Yeah, none of that is a good idea when you're going into the States.

Sounds reasonable.

Shrug...

Do you think that justifies a federal agency doing the same? On their own? I don't.

I guess by your usual broken conservative tree logic, police should have blindly enforced the Jim Crow laws in the 60s, they should never question whether they are doing wrong, just blindly enforce these racist laws, because they are the law.

The law is the law, no matter how corrupt, destructive or immoral it is. Making pot illegal is big government overreach that is part of the reason why the US has the largest prison population in the world, but hey, big government is fine with you, if its for ''family values'' right?

Yes.

However, those laws were dealt with correctly. Not by LE, but by legislators.

If people think the federal marijuana laws are "broken"...tell your legislator to fix them.

Oh...wait...you are a Canadian. Never mind. Just don't tell the border patrol if you have anything to do with weed. LOL!!

So according to your bad logic, any law that is created is instatly worthy of respect and no one can defy it for moral reasons. MLK should have kept quite and stayed at the back of the bus eh? The cops should have kept those water hoses going? There's your supposed small government in action. Would the Jim Crow laws have been over turned if MLK did not defy them? Also conservatives like Cliven Bundy break the law and Fox News declares him a hero. Why is that okay,

Do you think that applies to any law anywhere? What about the Nuremberg Laws?

By your bad logic, anyone who disagrees with a law...even law enforcers...should just ignore the law, right?

If so, why enact laws?

Are you an anarchist?
