... change my mind.

We treat type 2 diabetes the same as type 1.

Type 1 = a person is hypoinsulinemic.
Type 2 = a person is hyperinsulinemic.

Prevailing treatment for both conditions: give the person more insulin.

Correct treatment for type 1: give the person more insulin.

Correct treatment for type 2: lower the person's insulin level and insulin resistance via dietary modification.

No, we do not.

As a type II myself ( insulin resistant), dietary modification does help to a large degree, and it is what I use to keep my diabetes in check; but failing that, the treatment of choice is Metformin....not more insulin.

We don’t treat T1 and T2 the same!

T1 is insulin tx, T2 is use of metformin, and other non-insulin drugs to correct hyperglycemia. Lifestyle modification is also important, but alone it will fail in the vast majority of patients.

But at a certain point, a T2 functionally becomes T1, because their beta cells can’t produce enough insulin.

But the mainstay of treatment for T2 is restoring insulin sensitivity and non-insulin drug treatments.

You can’t correct insulin sensitivity with diet, unless you have substantial weight loss.

800 calorie diet should do it.

I was diagnosed with diabetes type 2 in may 2017. My C1a was over 13. I was prescribed insulin and metformin. Had a meeting with a Dietitian who recommended limiting my carbs to 30g per meal. My biggest improvement was when I went on the keto diet only allowing myself 20g or less of carbs daily. Using my test meter my numbers range 87-98 on average and i'm down 57 lbs. I'm no longer taking the insulin since February 2018. I'm not sure if it can be reversed from what I've learned is that it can't but certainly can be managed by diet.
