State and local police reports obtained by the Chronicle and Express-News show that O’Rourke was driving drunk at what a witness called “a high rate of speed” in a 75 mph zone on Interstate 10 about a mile from the New Mexico border. He lost control and hit a truck, sending his car careening across the center median into oncoming lanes. The witness, who stopped at the scene, later told police that O’Rourke had tried to drive away from the scene.
O'Rourke recorded a 0.136 and 0.134 on police breathalyzers, above a blood-alcohol level of 0.10, the state legal limit at the time. He was arrested at the scene and charged with DWI, but completed a court-approved diversion program and had the charges dismissed.
In a statement Thursday, O’Rourke did not address the witness account of his alleged attempt to flee.

He's lucky that happened back then, we were more... liberal about Drunk Driving. Glad he didn't' kill anyone, but damn, good job dem's, what Texas needs, a drunkard!

Can you really call them new details if they are 20 years old?

Drunk driving, went to court, case over and done with.
A single witness stated he attempted to flee yet he was there when the Police arrived.
No story here except that Cruz is getting nervous with a single point lead, being ahead in donations raised, and oh yes, Beto does not accept Corp donations.

Now Cruz who Trump stated his father was associated with Oswald to insulting his wife, now wants Trump to campaign for him
No slime pool is to deep for Cruz to sink into.

First of all one drunk driving conviction is not predictive of alcoholism. Second of all, there's this thing called the recovery community. It helps people get sober if they want to.

If old DWI made you unfit for office, the repubs could not have run George W. Bush, since he had an old DWI also.

Bush had described his days before his religious conversion in his 40s as his nomadic period and irresponsible youth. Although Bush states that he was not an alcoholic, he has acknowledged that he was "drinking too much".[12]

On September 4, 1976, Bush was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol near his family's summer home in Kennebunkport, Maine. He admitted his guilt, was fined US$150, and had his driving license in the state briefly suspended.

I hear that he once played in A ROCK BAND!

Oh, the horrors!

He’ll probably get more votes now

In a weird way an old charge like that humanizes him. Some of the things the GOP in Texas is putting out might not be that effective. I haven't followed Beto at all, but I now know he was in a cool band in the 90's, knows how to skateboard, made some mistakes, and then he grew up. Compare that to a guy like Cruz that has been power hungry since at least college.

Best news I heard was when Cruz renounced his Canadian Citizenship. Made many millions North of the border cheer

Cruz is the smarmy politician that leaves you with an icky feeling after you hear him talk. I think he's gross. But, O'Rourke, I know little about, but, imo, if he wants to beat Cruz he has to charge forward with populism. If I was O'Rourke I wouldn't touch the culture war with a 10 foot pole. All that NFL/Statue stuff, anything like that. The war on Christmas. All that should be left alone. He needs to just speak more plainly about populist left policies and he will crush smarmy Ted Cruz.

As far as I know he is a centrist democrat. I think in deep red states things like Medicare for All, free college tuition, etc. are harder to sell. Whatever he is doing right now seems to be working pretty well. I'm surprised the polls show him so close.

He supports medicare-for-all. He was almost a Justice Democrat.. and he's not taking any PAC money. He should hammer Cruz for being corrupt and be populist left, imo. When I say populist left, I mean look at polling and hammer the issues that Americans overwhelmingly agree with that are left policies.

He's a socialist, go it, he's not gonna win, the polling on Beto/Cruz looks close but the Gov race is not, and that's gonna make the diff

I need to do more homework on the guy. I just looked him up on healthcare and saw this as one of the first videos. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2HGS9RxNcSU
That just might be one of the best explanations of why single payer is an issue you can run on that I've seen from a politician.

Beto won't stoop to such negativity, but rolling Youtube clips of Cruz badmouthing the Pathological Liar in Chief would ensure Cruz coming second. Beto v Beta

I doubt he will win either specifically because of the way you replied. Anything and everything without an R next to it might as well be Stalin for the majority of republicans.

I think an effective way to go after Cruz would be to show how Trump badmouthed his father and wife, and then play the clip of Cruz begging people to vote for Trump over the phone. I can't think of a better example of someone being completely spineless.

No, because Beto is a twerp who backs things Texans reject.
