Republicans secretly study their coming hell

Congressional Republicans are getting ready for hell. Axios has obtained a spreadsheet that's circulated through Republican circles on and off Capitol Hill — including at least one leadership office — that meticulously previews the investigations Democrats will likely launch if they flip the House.

Why this matters: Publicly, House Republicans are putting on a brave face about the midterms. But privately, they are scrambling to prepare for the worst. This document, which catalogs requests Democrats have already made, is part of that effort.

It has churned Republican stomachs. Here are some of the probes it predicts:

  • President Trump’s tax returns
  • Trump family businesses — and whether they comply with the Constitution's emoluments clause, including the Chinese trademark grant to the Trump Organization
  • Trump's dealings with Russia, including the president's preparation for his meeting with Vladimir Putin
  • The payment to Stephanie Clifford — a.k.a. Stormy Daniels
  • James Comey's firing
  • Trump's firing of U.S. attorneys
  • Trump's proposed transgender ban for the military
  • Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin's business dealings
  • White House staff's personal email use
  • Cabinet secretary travel, office expenses, and other misused perks
  • Discussion of classified information at Mar-a-Lago
  • Jared Kushner's ethics law compliance
  • Dismissal of members of the EPA board of scientific counselors
  • The travel ban
  • Family separation policy
  • Hurricane response in Puerto Rico
  • Election security and hacking attempts
  • White House security clearances

The victories confirm the strong approval ratings the president gets from Republicans across the nation.

First of all, these are primaries to select who is going to run in November, meaning that someone from each party has to win. Nonetheless, since the parties are not running against each other, there is no rating on whether it is weak or strong. As such, saying that there is a strong approval rating is ridiculous.

It's no secret Republicans are now the party of Trump. Unfortunately for them they're going to discover the rest of the country doesn't feel the same way.

Independents and Democrats will clean their clocks. Republicans are a minority party.

Yeah we heard it all before. Trump and the republicans were going to loose to Hillary. The left has been declaring the rebublican part dead from the mid 90's same ol song and dance.

The country may not like republicans but they just don't like democrats much better

Trumpco customers have the 2018 elections in the bag.

It'll be an irresistible sweep across the country.

Might as well start celebrating now.

Of course, the time to get REALLY REALLY blasted on Monday November 5th.. Celebrate all those trump wins.. and get totally blitz

He has die-hard support among alt-right-wingers and GOP voters who are fed up with establishment candidates, but much of his own party despises him. The left, on the other hand, is mainly split along two factions: the 'vote blue no matter who' crowd, many of which will go out to vote just to vote against Trump ad Trump-supported politicians, and then there's the anti-establishment insurrection, many of which are the type of people that would have normally not bothered voting pre-Bernie.

The very fact that Trump is in office right now, and has the left seething does not bode well for Republicans in Congress. The reverse would be true if Clinton had won the presidency--progressives and left-leaning independents that don't care for her would roll over and go back to sleep, while Republicans would be coming out in numbers to challenge her power.

The fun thing about these predictions, is that we'll see soon enough.
