1: An Expanding Welfare State

2: Progressive Taxation Policy

3: Increase the Minimum Wage

4: Support Restrictive “Green Energy” Policies

5: Increase the Business Regulatory Burden

6: Inflate the Money Supply

7: Impose High Tariffs

Finally, if I wanted to keep poor people poor, I would most definitely not support a competitive, free market economy. As Milton Friedman once famously schooled Phil Donahue:

So that the record of history is absolutely crystal clear that there is no alternative way, so far discovered, of improving the lot of the ordinary people that can hold a candle to the productive activities that are unleashed by a free enterprise system.

It is understandable how we're getting there, though...

People in Europe, Canada, and elsewhere seem to do ok without your capitalist wet dream suggestions. Fewer poor. Just how does progressive taxation keep people poor? My folks got relief during the depression when mom was pregnant and my father lost his job. I suppose they would have been better off with nothing. I get welfare in the form of Social Security and Medicare, getting back more in benefits than I paid in. We all suck at a different teat. It’s called modern society.

Oh, one thing missing from the list would be ending regulations that weaken unions.

That is because they are so use to the government knows better than I do how to run my life.
Progression taxation punishes success. If you do well work hard earn more money you see it slip away to the government.
I do good work my company wants to give a bonus to me? 40% straight to the government.
Why? They did jack **** for it.

SS and Medicare is not welfare but paid for benefits. Crappy paid for benefits but still benefits

Once I get more out of it than I put in, it’s welfare. Poor people on welfare pay sales taxes that go to support the county and state that grant them benefits. No different than me getting government assistance from a different teat.

As to progressive taxation, I would gladly exchange the lower rate I pay to be able to pay a higher rate, even 40%. You could reject the bonus and have a lower tax rate. I would love to have my success punished. Abuse me, O Mistress IRS! Btw, do you drive to work on an interstate, get mail delivered to your home? If you run a business, are you allowed to incorporate? Sounds like Jack **** to me.

why should i reject money i worked hard for? that is beyond stupid. what is even dumber is that the government thinks i should be taxed at 40% for it.
that is 40% that is taken from my family and given to people that did nothing for it.

Yes your post is pretty much nothing but the typical liberal nonsense.

YOu guys simply cannot stay on topic.

there is a huge difference between STATE TAXES and FEDERAL TAXES yet you guys not only can't tell the difference
you try and slide them into the same barrel all the time. I honestly it is just a dishonest tactic but it doesn't work that well.

We are discussing FEDERAL TAXES NOT STATE TAXES. they are completely different.
lucky for me i choose to live in a state that does not have state income taxes.

Why isn't Denmark poor?

Hard Work. Free markets. Oil.
That's how they became prosperous and THEN they started creating a huge welfare state.
Things started going downhill.Denmark-Sweden-Welfare-State-Growth.jpg

They saw the inevitable consequences of a and expanding welfare states and have started to change course.

Just for clarification. I view number 1 to include the enormous Corporate Welfare in our CORPORATIST Nation.

First of all, I was making an analogy when talking about sales or state taxes, about the principle that those on welfare have paid in some measure for the benefits they receive. No analogy is perfect. I was also being ironic about you rejecting the bonus. We, the people, who take the 40% thanks to representative democracy hope you spend the other 60% wisely and in good health.

Second, I indeed get part of your 40% as you get part of others’, when we avail ourselves of the protection of the military, use the Interstate, get mail, incorporate, have patent protection, get more from SS than contributed, etc.

What people who did nothing get your money? Soldiers and sailors, FEMA responders, dam builders, meat inspectors, drug testers, highway construction workers? True, those on SS disability might not have done much except being born blind or otherwise handicapped, so there’s that. But those “young bucks” and “welfare queens” Reagan spoke so compassionately about have passed from the scene. But you seem to not get what it means to live in an interdependent society (socius in Latin means member). Ayn Rand is dead. After collecting Social Security.

Oddly enough, all things considered Denmark is more economically free than the US.
