Monday, 27 August 2018: The White House flag is flying at full staff before John McCain funeral happens, nor, the happenings what will happen in Washington DC. I did not vote for him in the 2008 presidential election: he was a man I can respect. I never was in the military, but, I respect him as being a former POW that refused to go home as out of order. I find it insulting that the Trump White House is so childish as flying the flag at full staff, and would be more upset if I was in the military.

Is anyone even surprised anymore at the extent of his pettiness.

Day of and next day is normal protocol, I hear

According to my Google search, it's not exactly clear whether it is or isn't. So why don't you go outside and look.

Bear in mind it is changing every couple of hours. As usual, the truth seems to be hard to nail down when the MSM is reporting.

As usual trump continues to prove he is unfit to lead this Nation.

I checked the website. It looks like a company called after a company without connections to a news source.

If it was half staff for the shooting victims, them what do for McCain? Go down anther quarter? Or back up full for a two-fer? (As in shooting = move flag one half staff, Mc Cain = move another half staff either up or down, but since it's day time, you'd have to go full up. Maybe that explains it? LOL

Under 4 U.S.C. § 7(m) and established traditions by Presidential proclamations, the flag of the United States is to be flown at half-staff on rare occasions, in the following circumstances:[59]

For thirty days after the death of a current or former president or president-elect, as occurred after the death of President Reagan and the death of President Ford.
For ten days after the death of a current vice president, current or retired chief justice, or current Speaker of the House of Representatives.
From the day of death until interment of an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, a secretary of an executive or military department, a former vice president, the President Pro Tempore of the Senate,[60] or the governor of a state, territory, or possession.
On the day of death and the following day for a Member of Congress.
On Memorial Day until noon.
Every September 11 in remembrance of the September 11 attacks.[61]
Upon presidential proclamation, usually after the death of other notable figures or tragic events.[62]

Issuing a Proclamation would be in order. Last line.

Trump follows protocol ... but it looks like you don't like that either ...

ok, i checked, and it looks like that orange ********er actually raised the flag back to full staff. **** him, and **** Trumpism. i didn't agree with McCain, but this sickens me. i cannot wait for the day when Trump is voted out or is removed from office by congress.

McCain died late Saturday. The flag was back up this morning. John didn't even rate the 48 hours protocol calls for.

Yesterday for a few hours the flag was at half staff. Even that the flag pole is well lighted, during the night the flag was not there. Today, the news is talking about it and I can see with my own eyes the live feed of the White House having the flag at full staff. The flags at Congress still have their flags at half staff.

This really is a minor issue.. and the only thing it shows is there was no love lost between McCain and Trump. I think there are vastly more important things to be concerned about in the Trump Administration. THe corruption, the scandals, the investigations, etc etc etc.

Well, there you go. That should make you happy.

Yes, it is a minor issue. Still, it shows the temper of Trump himself. Standard rule, any member of Congress that dies: the flag stays at half staff until the funeral is over

Is this going to be the anti-Trumper's new crisis for the week.
Trump flies flag half mast in honor of John McCain for 48 hours and returns it to full mast this morning?

It must be hard for you bud......having to bend over backwards to cover for Trump every time he pulls some stunt like this.

The standing rule is any member of Congress that dies, the flag stays at half staff until the funeral is over.

With the traitorous crime boss we have occupying the Whitehouse (when he's not golfing on our dime) the flag should be flying upside down...

I think Trump should keep the flag lowered until Sunday when McCain is laid to rest, but let's not kid ourselves; McCain is getting the last laugh from the grave, as he receives a full, formal funeral in his home state of Arizon, in D.C. and in Annapolis, where Trump has been told in no uncertain terms he is not welcomed, in this EPIC snub of a sitting President.

That's McCain in all his humanity.

If the flag was lowered to half on the day of death and also on the day after, then it is following the standard set forth by President Eisenhower:

In 1954, president Dwight Eisenhower issued this presidential proclamation about flying the flag after the death of major political military figures:

The flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff on all buildings, grounds, and naval vessels of the Federal Government in the metropolitan area of the District of Columbia on the day of death and on the following day upon the death of a United States Senator, Representative, Territorial Delegate, or the Resident Commissioner from the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and it shall also be flown at half-staff on all buildings, grounds, and naval vessels of the Federal Government in the State, Congressional District, Territory, or Commonwealth of such Senator, Representative, Delegate, or Commissioner, respectively, from the day of death until interment
