Being classy must just not be in the cards.

President Trump nixed issuing a statement that praised the heroism and life of Sen. John McCain, telling senior aides he preferred to issue a tweet before posting one Saturday night that did not include any kind words for the late Arizona Republican.

Press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Chief of Staff John F. Kelly and other White House aides advocated for an official statement that gave the decorated Vietnam War POW plaudits for his military and Senate service and called him a “hero,” according to current and former White House aides, who requested anonymity to discuss sensitive internal deliberations. The original statement was drafted before McCain died Saturday, and Sanders and others edited a final version this weekend that was ready for the president, the aides said.

But Trump told aides he wanted to post a brief tweet instead, and the statement praising McCain’s life was not released.

Wow. Just wow.

Trump is an absolutely petty man-baby who wouldn't know about class or respect if it blackmailed him with a tape of him watching two Russian hookers pissing on a hotel bed.

par, meet course

Wait a minute.

When the subject of Trump's appearance at McCain's funeral arose, my question was "how could any kind words be meaningful, the bridge was burned". Then I thought... could McCain have counted on Trump to not go to the funeral and send Pence, given he is aware of the bad blood and that he's a political lightning rod. Could Trump have known to just leave it alone, all by himself.

Well, now we have this. Trump left it alone. I think he's right, and I think it might even show a little bit of class (not that I have any, so whatdo I know).

How could anything have come off as sincere. How could anything have not been instantly pasted next to disparaging remarks in a meme festival, all taking away from where our attention should be.

This is doing the right thing. And it tells me that Trump might have done the right thing in regard to the funeral and left it alone.

I don't blame McCain for not betting on Trump stepping away from a limelight, but that's what this is. So, in some ways, gratz to Trump, leave it alone. It's about him.

The White House could have issued a statement honoring a man like McCain, without Trump taking center stage.

Any statement is a meme contrasting then and now, it might as well only have Trump's name on it.

It would have been better for trump to skip the tweet and have a White House statement issued. Surely you can see that.

He was going to get blasted no matter what so why not post something short and sincere. It's not exactly a secret that he and McCain didn't get along so why try to fake it?

Trump is only blasted because of the unprofessional actions trump has done. Proving once again how trump is not a good president at all. He puts his petty posing matches before the good of the country and is a divider. Thank you for proving me right.

Help me out with the sincere part?

Not so sure. The Admin statement would have been extensive because of everyone involved, while only Trump's name would actually be attached. Him putting his name on an extensive group statement would have fed into attention stealing.

Petty people can’t just stop being petty..........

It would have been better than the tweet. If you are that concerned over it, than he shouldn't have put anything out. However, because of his petty words and petty fights where he looks completely unpresidential he bombed as president no matter what. You guys seem to support the president acting like a complete ass.

Then it's official, I'm a "Trumpster". My debate opponents will be greatly relieved.

Exactly.

Any words from trump praising McCain's service to this country would have been meaningless as a degree from trump University.

Republicans have been on the theme that Liberals would blast him even if he did [hypothetical decent thing] while simultaneously acknowledging that he would never, ever do that decent thing in this universe.

President Donald Trump broke his closely watched silence on Sen. John McCain, tweeting his "deepest sympathies and respect" to the family of the senator after his death was announced on Saturday night.
"My deepest sympathies and respect go out to the family of Senator John McCain. Our hearts and prayers are with you!" Trump tweeted.

Trump is one hell of a guy, you dont push him around.

Problem is, Trump is being “pushed” in so many directions at the same time, that it just doesn’t look like he is moving.....
