We are not surprised to learn of this development.

Perhaps more intriguing is this tidbit mentioned in CNN's coverage of the matter:
It's not clear how any plea deal with Cohen might affect other entities that have been under scrutiny by federal prosecutors as part of the Cohen investigation, including the publisher of the National Enquirer, American Media Inc., which gave a $150,000 contract during the 2016 election cycle to another woman who alleged an affair with Trump.
I wasn't aware that other entities' behavior may have raised federal prosecutors' hackles.

On air, CNN is reporting currently that the nature of the plea negotiations are not those that would result in Cohen receiving a 5K1 letter. That's news that I'm sure will comfort Trump, at least for now. Obviously, that circumstance could change.

Cohen is such a lying POS, I am sure no prosecutor on earth would promise him squat until after he delivers.

I find the Cohen situation rather worrisome for Trump. It seems that Mueller is not interested in what Cohen has to say. Which suggest he already has all he needs regarding Trump's financial misdeeds.

One would expect that Trump's personal attorney spilling the beans would be a prosecutors dream. The fact that they seem less than enthusiastic about Cohen suggests that they already know everything they need to know.

I think all pleaders are required to deliver before they receive their 5K1 and have their sentencing hearing.

George P. is an example. By the prosecutors' reckoning, there's nothing more they want from him, so he can now be sentenced. I suspect Mueller's team got what they wanted from him and without a lot of "carrying on." I think that because of the very lenient sentencing request -- zero to six months -- submitted to the court. Were the court to sentence George to zero time -- or 24 hours or some such, in jail, or assign a sentence that's immediately suspended and followed by a probationary period, or something on those lines -- thus giving him a felony record, but otherwise allowing him to resume his life, the prosecution would have no grounds to object to that sentence because it's within the range they requested/recommended.

The sentencing recommendation Mueller filed re: George P. alluded too to the fact that, as goes the Russia investigation, prosecutors are more interested in getting to the bottom of what happened than they are in putting people in jail. To my mind, that's as it should be for the real need is to understand what happened, who was party to it, what conditions, circumstances, personal situations, and human character traits aided and abetted allowing whatever happened to happen. That kind of information will allow individuals to, in the future, variously interdict, preempt, warn, look for, etc. similar patterns and qualities and do something before the meddling and co-opting occurs.
