CNN sues to get name of jurors in Manafort case

You forgot the other side of the coin that is just, if not more, likely. That there are people on the jury who are Trump haters, through and through, and would choose guilty no matter what.

Great thing about these types of cases...they require a "beyond reasonable doubt" for there to be a guilty verdict. If even ONE juror decides to vote "not guilty" then the person cannot be convicted. So it doesn't really matter if the jury pool is a mixture of Trump supporters and Trump haters. What would be concerning is if the jury was made up of Trump supporters completely or those that don't support Trump completely. That would be a true travesty of justice.

The jury could be plants NOW. There are ways to secure the reliability of it. For example there's nothing stopping a juror from giving their take to the media after a trial ends thereby willingly releasing their names and faces. Plus since jurors are randomly picked via computer now a days that is another check. And other ways.

But if their names are public it is much less likely they would be plants. I'm talking about the future negative unintended consequences down the road. It would be much easier to have a shame of a trial.

Leave the jurors alone.

There is no reason we need to know their identities. The media doesn't need to vet them. The opposing counsels do that.

Plus, I suspect the possibility of attention would act as an outside pressure to convict.

They're always told to avoid news about the case they sit on. But people suck at following instructions. If they see a media entity is trying to find their identities, that's bad enough.

Why put their names out there except to make them targets of intimidation?

After the trial, maybe.

That's the whole point. The media is conspiring to release the jurors's identities so the nutjob neo-bolshevics can threaten them.

Aside from the defendent, no one has a "right" to know the ID's of the jurors.

On its face I don't understand the need to get the jurors' names and addresses. The request seems bizarre...on its face. But before passing judgment I want to hear the opinions of experienced law-related professionals as well as an explanation by news outlets themselves for making this request.

Of course, I was just pointing out to the poster what is more likely vs some kind of Russian spy conspiracy.
