There has been a lot of talk about the love/respect that Trump has for Putin that has led many to believe that Putin has something on him and that he is a puppet of the Russian President.

This morning on MSNBC they had Craig Unger as a guest and Unger wrote a book about Trump being an Asset of Putin (House of Putin. House of Trump). He stated that since 1987, the Russian Mafia have had their hooks into Trump and that are using him to do what they want.

Unger makes a strong case in his book and names the people that Trump met and their dealings with him. It is a tale of corruption at the highest level.

Here is a bit of what is being said:

But even without an investigation by Congress or a special prosecutor, there is much we already know about the president’s debt to Russia. A review of the public record reveals a clear and disturbing pattern: Trump owes much of his business success, and by extension his presidency, to a flow of highly suspicious money from Russia. Over the past three decades, at least 13 people with known or alleged links to Russian mobsters or oligarchs have owned, lived in, and even run criminal activities out of Trump Tower and other Trump properties. Many used his apartments and casinos to launder untold millions in dirty money. Some ran a worldwide high-stakes gambling ring out of Trump Tower—in a unit directly below one owned by Trump. Others provided Trump with lucrative branding deals that required no investment on his part. Taken together, the flow of money from Russia provided Trump with a crucial infusion of financing that helped rescue his empire from ruin, burnish his image, and launch his career in television and politics. “They saved his bacon,” says Kenneth McCallion, a former assistant U.S. attorney in the Reagan administration who investigated ties between organized crime and Trump’s developments in the 1980s.

I believe this did happen. It makes sense.

I dunno -- Craig Unger wrote a book about Carl Rove, too, and, as I recall, much of it was proven false. He portrayed Rove as some sort of diabolical demon, when Rove really isn't all that bright.

At any rate, I think Unger is pretty much a conspiracy theorist, and I'm guessing this book is along those same lines, although I have not read it.

And, won't.

Trump is too emotionally driven and un-strategic to be much of an asset for anyone, particularly us.

Don't you find it odd that the author released this book before the completion of the Mueller investigation?
But go ahead and slurp up another Trump conspiracy theory....

A number of retired counterintelligence guys have come to the same conclusion.

He's in Putin's pocket.

Oh, I do love the conspiracy theory that involved Trump being a Russian asset. Never mind Russia paying Bill Clinton gobs of money to speak!
Boy, must have been a brilliant plan to have Trump knock off 16 opponents who included a political dynasty and decades of politics.

Clever and brilliant how they pulled that off!

Asset, yes, but only in the informal sense. I don't think Trump is in any way an agent of Russia. I do think that Putin manipulates him to Russia's advantage.

I wonder how much money the Russians have paid in fees or donations to Trump or others in our government or political system?

that would be a good path to follow (to investigate favors and who owns who).

Iron-clad proof

More than $500,000 that Bill Clinton got paid, maybe?

I wonder how much Russian cash went into the ClintonSlushFundation?

I think there's a big $million dollar number floating out there....

Trump has wanted to build a Trump tower in Moscow for years. In 2016 he was in negotiations to do just that while he was running for president. Trump then lied and said he had no business interests in Russia. That would be a better path to follow.

So someone getting millions in cold hard cash from Russia is of no interest?

oh my...

Wow, a global billionaire real estate mogul wanted to build a tower in Russia? Say it ain't so.
Someone call Mr. Mueller. Case closed.

and then lied about it. The point is that Putin has a goody to dangle in front of Trump.

Unger did say on the show this morning when asked what the Russians thought of Trump and he said that they thought he was a joke.

Cases built on speculation instead of facts, like yours against the Clintons, rarely go anywhere.

and then lied about it. The point is that Putin has a goody to dangle in front of Trump.

I bet that makes Trump more "flexible".

Yeah, well go ahead and dismiss it as you have done with the other 100 conspiracy theories.

Where there is smoke there is usually a fire. If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck and quacks like a duck, it probably is a duck.

1000 X that?
He's been taking their money since. The 80s when US banks wouldn't lend to him after he stiffed them.

Look no further than The gold clad trump tower with the cheapest kitchen outfits.
A total lowlife

And if he doesn't?

Let's cross that disaster if, and when, it happens.

Malcom Nance is one of those counter-intelligence guys. He spent much of his career dancing with Russians. About a year ago, when Chris Hayes first started bringing him on his show, his demeanor was glacial. Time and subsequent revelations have made him a lot more blunt, and angry.

I know how he feels.

Looks like somebody may have plagiarized somebody.
A couple of us here posted this story back in early July.
Then it was a column by Jonathan Chait.
What If Trump Has Been a Russian Asset Since 1987?

Given this one is from a book by Felix<sic>Unger and it would take a bit of time to reach print (even silly books like this) it looks like ol' Jonathan may have some splainin to do.
Or maybe Felix and Jonathan colluded.
