What Mexico can politically teach the US

Yes, leftists won the presidency, along with with both chambers of congress in Mexico. They could have held pat and controlled everything, but unlike leftists (and rightists too) in America, they reached out to the other side, and allied with Mexico's far right party. What do these strange bedfellows have in common? Putting an end to both corruption and the drug cartels.

Corruption is a huge problem here in the US, where people in office, both Republican and Democrat, are making the news by getting busted for it. So, what I would like to see in this thread are ideas on where, like Mexico, the left and the right can come together on issues that concern both sides, and how corruption can be ended. A good starter here is term limits for Congress. Congress men and women in Mexico have a ONE term of 6 years limit.

NOTE: This is not a thread to trash Trump, Bush, Hillary, Obama, or anybody else. I am asking everybody to stick strictly to the topic. If I see any attacks, rather than constructive comments pertaining to the topic, I will ask the mods to boot you from the thread.

It's too bad we couldn't invest a bit of (wall) money into helping Mexico clean up it's corruption. If it was a safer, more prosperous place, it's people might want to stay there more. PBS has a current documentary airing on Wednesday nights about "the Wonders of Mexico." It's beautiful and well done.

With this election and coming together of the right and the left, I believe that Mexico is now well on it's way to dealing with the problem.

We need to crack down on the revolving door. Politicians know they can do the bidding of their donors and when they retire, become a lobbyist for a company that they legislate on behalf of.

It would be great if that were to happen here; though let's not get ahead of ourselves regarding Mexico. I think it's a great start, but what comes out of it will be more telling of the intent from both sides. We need to do the same because all we're doing is riding a big see saw shifting from one party to the other instead of working together to solve the problems this country faces.

Instead of closing the revolving door, how about Congressional term limits? Lobbyists would not be very interested in shelling out millions of dollars to someone who is only going to be in office for one term.

Although I believe one party is much more corrupt and has much more money to spend (I won't say which), I think you have a great idea for both the WH and Congress if they extend both their terms.

It would go a long way to reduce the obscene amounts being spent...
