Education Secretary Betsy DeVos moved Friday to end rules passed under the Obama administration that penalized for-profit colleges with a record of leaving graduates in crippling debt and with few job prospects.

In a statement that appeared on the Education Department's website on Friday, the agency claimed the move was born out of an effort to treat all types of institutions "fairly."

In another attack on Obama-era legislation to protect people who get victimized by for-profit online colleges, deVos is ending the rules that protected their victims.

Time for future "victims" to educate themselves before buying into useless online colleges.

Victims? Didn't they sign up and agree to the terms? How are they victims if they agreed to the terms?

For-profit government for the corrupt Gilded GOP is not new. It took President Theodore Roosevelt to stop this madness last time, plus a little help from the major depression.

For-profit prisons, for-profit Veterans Administration, for-profit Private schools, For-Profit Immigration Policies, for-profit destruction of our Environment.

So many for-profit bastardizations of our Nation. Deconstruction indeed. And all in 19 months.

I think the hook was the almost promise of good-paying jobs when they graduated.

DeVos needs a jail cell.

For educational purposes, of course.

The idea (bolded above) seems sound yet the planned implementation seems unsound. Rather than drop the rule from for-profit colleges, apply it to all public colleges as well.

Well if a trade school advertises that it can get you employed but only employs the top 10% permanently then it might as well be a casino. With a merit cherry on top.

Real colleges give you an education. If you get a degree in philosophy, you are making a choice about your future. The top grads can get jobs, but 80-90% are going to be doing something else.

An education has value outside it's monetary value.

Are you kidding me? If only 10% to 20% of those getting a given college degree can find related employment then that is a bad deal.

From these for-profit colleges to the shady-as-hell predatory lenders like payday loan companies, the Trump administration seems intent on making it much easier to bilk desperate people out of every penny they can by dismantling every protection people have from these sharks. It’s economic Darwinism.

Trump supporters, of course, prefer to blame the people taking the loans, even though the terms of said loans are often very convoluted and dishonestly presented.

Welcome to the Fraudulent States of America. Drain the swamp, indeed.

Public colleges generally don’t promise you a job when you graduate.

College attracts brilliant eccentrics, and they follow their passion. It's always been that way.

OK, so why should that be a bad thing when for-profit colleges do so as well?

Then why should private ones?

Like Trump university, that's how they lure students in. They don't care about educating the students or giving them marketable skills. They only care about squeezing as much money from students as possible.

Some say buyer beware but how can a buyer know that graduates end up without jobs? Not everyone knows how to search Internet forums. These people are left with thousands of dollars of debt when they were already in a bad situation.

Republicans get away with this because voters are not paying attention. This is why I don't vote for Republicans.

Guess you have never heard of fraud, of sellers lying to buyers. It's why we have regulations she is trying to get rid of.
