It has been a sight to behold to see our nation's culture lose the sense that everyone is entitled to their opinion. Furthermore, I never though I would see the day that an openly Socialist Presidential candidate have a serious shot at becoming President. The speed at which freedom being a cultural desire disappear is breathtaking. The USA is almost to the point where one has to watch what one says as much as they do in Communist Cuba. I know, I visited three times and tested the boundaries and even got some warnings to boot. I'm leaning against staying in the USA once I no longer need to earn a salary. Colombia or maybe some parts of Mexico seem really inviting. Paying a bit of protection money to a cartel would be preferable to the need to walk on eggshell society the SJWs are trying to create. In some ways Communist Cuba is less "politically correct" than the USA.

I'm sure that it will only get worse. I'm glad that I won't be around to see it. Our political priorities once put liberty first, now the priorities are to control one's neighbor's speech to be protected from being "offended" and getting free stuff. The USA's culture is becoming more like that of Communist Cuba's with each passing decade, in some respects is already WORSE. There are many parallels between what happened to James Damore in the USA and Karla Perez Gonzalez in Cuba.

14ymedio, Havana, 26 December 2017 — When it was confirmed that Karla Pérez González (b. 1998, Cienfuegos) had earned the right to be trained as a journalist at Marta Abreu de Las Villas Central University, she had the illusion that she could remove the foundations of stagnant Cuban journalism. The young woman promised herself that she would not be intimidated and would do what was expected of an honest communicator: to tell the truth at any price.

However, Pérez González was not even able to complete the first year of her course. One star-crossed Wednesday they called her on the phone to notify her that she had been expelled from the university because they had discovered that she was publishing on sites critical of the Cuban government, and had contacts with the Somos+ (We Are More) Movement.

Then, a stream of public accusations rained down upon the young woman, including epithets such as “enemy,” and a collective intimidation of her classmates was unleashed. Instead of appealing the sentence of her expulsion, she decided to write a letter to the Minister of Higher Education but never got a response.

They accused her of manipulating her classmates and of having a strategy from the beginning of the course to subvert other young people. Overnight, and at the mere age of 18, she was turned into a monster, an enemy of the homeland, someone who had to be destroyed.

Now she is studying journalism at the Latin University of Costa Rica and working on the newspaper El Mundo in that Central American country. She insists that she will return to Cuba and put her knowledge at the service of the press within the Island.

I don't consider socialism opposed to freedom.

As with every other idea, it depends on implementation.

Thank you. I am happy to have acknowledgement - even if it's bitter - that the country needs to pass onto the next generation.

Damn I was just thinking about this yesterday....by the mid-eighties I was sure that America had huge problems that no one was dealing with and by 1995 I had had my head spun by a long essay form argument that we were in a New Dark Age already and that it would get certainly much worse and by 2005 I was sure that we are......all along the trail I have been "Man, I wish I had been born a couple of decades earlier.

And now here I am at 56 with health problems that mean that I will not live a long life hoping that I cash out before the really bad **** gets here but thinking that I did really good compared to what my kids and grandkids are going to have to deal with.

You're NOT entitled to your opinion, you're entitled to your own INFORMED opinion, there's a difference because your ignorance is not equal to knowledge.

You're NOT entitled to your opinion, you're entitled to your own INFORMED opinion, there's a difference because your ignorance is not equal to knowledge.

Everyone is entitled to their own mind, and to speak it at will.

People generally knew this back when America Was Better.

Back before UTOPIA called, and the bus drivers arrived.

Conformity to the GroupThink is now demanded.

Heretics are now hunted with vigor.

This is how it goes in Dark Ages.

We are in one.

You're NOT entitled to your opinion, you're entitled to your own INFORMED opinion, there's a difference because your ignorance is not equal to knowledge.

Well, hold on. He is entitled to have an opinion. But we are entitled to explain why it's a very stupid, bad, and dumb opinion.

I am teaching my kids to be ready to live anywhere in the World they need to. Could it be that one day that the indigenous people in the Amazon will have a better quality of life than the so-called "civilized" parts of the world? I remember reading in the news that a Tupi-Guarani tribe met electrical workers with machetes. It turns out that one of the scouts made it to the city. He described the slums, crime, noise and blight to his tribe. They decided that they wanted no part of "civilization".

FWIW, my sons have Tupi-Guarani blood in them.

Some might describe that tribe as "ignorant". Perhaps they weren't even literate, but is seems that they made a pretty well informed decision.

I agree that freedom is disappearing, but I disagree that it is all attributed to socialists and communists. That's an old scapegoat that rightists use to bait and switch the public from the real sources of power grabs, which is the military-industrial complex. The red tide is no longer a real threat and hasn't been for decades. What we are looking at right now is a seriously corrupt financial sector and a corporate elite that have manipulated the government into lifting the very laws meant to prevent another 2008 crash. It's so that they can make last minute accumulations of obscene wealth before the financial system goes under again, which it is about to. The only difference is that this time the government is ready to quell any major dissent.

As long as rightists keep blaming socialists and leftists keep blaming conservatives they will never see the trees for the woods. The polarization of America by the corporately owned mass media has largely been successful, to the extent that the People are so busy fighting among themselves for any number of trivial perceived wrongs that their government is gradually going awol.

Add to that an increasingly chaotic and warming global climate, and yes I agree... thank god I'm not younger. I would not want to be starting out in the world with this level of insanity.

Your opinion is perfectly validated by the subsequent responses designed not to address your position, but rather to attack you personally just for having it.

I wonder how long it will take for them to attack you for posting this? 3, 2, 1... ;)

The first thing I come up with is that I taught my kids to eat all the seafood they like now, because a lot of it is going away soon.....

This indicates to me that maybe I should make a point to come back to you later.

I am trying to cut down on drunk posting.

Thats true, but the more socialism you implement the less freedom you have

Unfortunately that is the same probably many of us are facing today.

I hated being chased from the democratic camp, but I am pretty much glad now that I am no longer one of them.

The sky is falling. Run now. Run fast. Run long. Just go. Don't wait. Go.

I blame Elvis Presley and all that hip-gyrating.
That was the beginning of the fall of mankind.

Fly you fools.

I wouldn't run up the white flag just yet. You are making the same mistake leftists did in 2016 when, before Trump even began doing well in the primaries, the left had written off Republicans as has beens that were quickly losing their majority and would never be seen or heard from again. Fast forward just a little bit and these same leftists were doubled over in laughter as DJT became the nominee.

Going back in time, I remember when I was young and a Democrat and all of my fellow youngsters were doing basically the very same thing leftists are doing now, protesting everything under the sun, the police were called pigs and hippies and flower children were running rampant and many were getting high and sex was selling big time. We had Woodstock and demanded an end to wars and the military and draft dodgers were all headed to Canada. Rich people were the enemy of the people.

In other words, we go through these phases. If this one doesn't end, heaven help us all. But, don't run up the white flag. There are more smart people in the country than you give credit. Most of the dummies actually don't vote. They just like to get their message on television. Take the million woman pro abortion March on DC more than a year ago. Did they accomplish anything? If anything, things have gone backwards for them. No one listens that votes and people are getting pissed off at both Hollywood and the MSM telling us who we should vote for.

Yeah Republicans whining about Freedom while they forced probes up women's vaginas without their consent what a bunch of freaking hypocrites

You just actually called yourself out as well. You know that right?

It's universal, and while no one is perfect (myself included) I do my best to not offer uninformed opinions, and if it turns out they aren't informed, I try to learn. When's the last time you or anyone admitted you needed to learn more, or changed your position.
For me, it was yesterday.

You know what, I have to accede to your well thought out point.
Since there are no members of the Russian nobility I suppose the term is inappropriate.
So from here on out, in honor of your well thought out point, I'll simply use the term autocrat or dictator instead of "czar".

It was pointed out to me that my opinion was UNINFORMED, and jnug was right in pointing that out.

Censorship should be extremely minimal in a free society. Only the worst possible content should be banned. Certainly not politically charged or uncomfortable topics. Again, the people who are in control have the most to gain from censorship. People should examine the faces behind the corporate media. People being offended by content should never be a reason for content to be banned.

Amen. I agree. It didn't take long for leftists to start in, did it?

I hear you except that I won't leave the country that I love and that has made it possible to be me, at least up until now. But I am stubborn enough to try to be part of the force that corrects the truly evil side of it that now permeates almost all of American culture and society.

You are correct that the SJWs, snowflakes, socialists, and anarchists--the same who have absolutely lost their collective minds since they became afflicted with TDS--have so permeated media, education, science, and all other institutions that influence American thought that political correctness has become the new fanatical religion of the nation in direct opposition to the First Amendment of the Constitution both in free speech and freedom of religion.

Don't toe the line they intend to dictate and they descend en masse upon and make every effort to discredit and personally destroy the 'offender' demanding they be banned, fired, disallowed any place in society. The President's star on Hollywood Boulevard is demolished, people are harassed in public, customers/clients, suppliers, advertisers etc. are harassed and/or threatened, and they organize in an effort to discredit or silence any voice that disagrees with them even here at DP. Tolerance for any point of view other than the politically correct one that they dictate is unthinkable and disallowed.

But we who love the America as it is intended to be let them win if we don't keep speaking the truth as we see it but allowing all points of view to be expressed and then choosing that which can be defended as feasible, doable, accurate, edifying.

Your post is an important part of doing that. But don't abandon us. Stay and fight with those who love America and what it can be.

None of us will hold our breaths waiting for people to stop dividing this Nation into left and right, into assigning a false-narrative Label and then playing their doom and gloom routine. The saddest part is these people are doing this to their own families, staining them for their futures.

Instead of one side telling us how much better of human beings they are than others, we should all celebrate what is great. We should not Rank one greatness over another. Everyone in this thread, especially me, needs to check their negative backage at the door of these ominous threads and get off their pompous soap boxes, once and for all.

Everyone needs to Stop screwing up the future lives of our children’s children with these endless, mindless divisions.
