Trump is the most popular person in the history of the GOP

At the point in their presidency which corresponded to when Trump made that boast both George W. Bush and Dwight Eisenhower outpolled him among Republicans.

At that point in their presidency, everyone from Ike onward except Ford had polled at least as high as Trump's highest numbers at some point. (Nixon tied with Trump's high. Reagan, both Bushes and Ike all exceeded Trump's high.)

Probably not many. Jim Jones was hugely popular among his base too. They would follow him to the ends of the Earth, and prove those unbelievers wrong!
 
Polls are silly when you use them in historical framework. A number of people cannot tell you the last five presidents of the United States of American. Cherry picking polls is a bad idea in the first place.

Exactly, I would have voted either Kasich or huntsman over Hillary. However I would not have voted for Christy. Even though I like him,he is still the corrupt new yorker type that I just can't bring myself to trust.

You coming up with a different question doesn't change how dishonest, ignorant and insecure he is. Oh, and you didn't say "today". You said "could out-poll". And most of them could outpoll him in their day.


So, anyway, I guess you could take a few more bites at the apple and try to make your question airtight, and you can get some of us to play along, but none of it changes what a dishonest, ignorant, insecure buffoon he is, whose top poll numbers barely tie with Nixon's.

I guess even Trump's most dedicated defenders run out of steam now and then. Understandable.
