The Federal Government has "borrowed" 2.8 TRILLION dollars from the Social Security Fund. I remember when Gore talked about putting the money from Social Security taxes into a "locked box" so the government could no longer use it to balance the budget. He said it would be needed during the years that the baby boomers started taking SS and when they died. It would be the time of the largest draw on the fund and the money would be needed to offset the lower number of workers paying into the fund during that 30 year period. Everyone laughed at the idea and the government went on it merry wy taking the money and using it as if was just another tax. We now are reaching the problem time when the amount of money going into the fund from FICA taxes is less than the amount needed to pay Social Security recipients. So will the country pay back the fund so Social Security recipients don't have to take drastic cuts in their payments. Instead of that happening we are told the cuts in SS have to be made to balance the budget. Social Security is not part of the Federal Budget. So after stealing the money from the fund for the past 40-50 years, we are now told that taxes can't be raised to pay back the fund. So do you, as apparently the politico's, see the Social Security tax as just another fund that can be used for whatever our government wants to use it for? DO you think that Social Security payments should be cut drastically so that taxes don''t have to be raised to pay the fund back for the money borrowed?
