Another Stand Your Ground In Florida[W:57]

Re: Another Stand Your Ground In Florida

Then no one knows what really happened except Zimmerman got out of his car when told not to and created a confrontation.

First off......that's not true.

Second, you need to review the actual trial and see what all was revealed there.

If you want to rehash Martin/Zimmerman start a new thread, don't derail this one.

Prove it. You said yourself all we have is what Zimmerman says happened. Lets hear Martin's side....oh wait....lol

Re: Another Stand Your Ground In Florida

If T hadn't lost site of Z (evidenced by T's own girlfriend testimony) and if Z also hadn't lost site of T then I would probably agree with you, at least up to a point. However they did lose site of each other. After that it was Trayvon that initiated the confrontation as he had the choice to "stay hidden" (if he was) or go directly to his home. That didn't happen. Instead Trayvon went up to Z and Trayvon initiated the physicality.

while still being pursued by someone he did not know.
maybe he couldn't get home.

there is also the fact that zimmerman disobeyed a direct order by police not to engage and follow the person.
anyone following me is a threat period. more so if they do not identify themselves and who they are.

by them being a threat i have a right to defend myself if needed if they continue to pursue me.
doesn't matter if he lost sight of him or not.

if someone is following me i am going to try and lose them. if i can't lose them then i am going to defend myself.

I agree. They are not following me because I am a celebrity. They must want to do harm

If you don't got it you don't got it. I guess we will hear no more about Zimmerman from you

I agree. Let's get back on track and to the topic of the thread please. (and yes, this warning is for me also. I apologize Vox for my part in sidelining your discussion)

Re: Another Stand Your Ground In Florida

Am I the authority you are questioning?

LOL! Question Florida law.

No doubt BlackLivesMatter will riot, but.......like Zimmerman, this good man will, in time, be exonerated.

I just hope this doesn't start the simmering race war in America.

The FL SYG law is a bad joke. As a resident, I would "feel safer" if it were tightened up a good bit. And I'm a gun owner.

Here's the NRA shill that basically wrote it.

Re: Another Stand Your Ground In Florida

There was nothing legit about that shoot. The shooter should be hooked up with 2nd Degree. No question.

Yeah, he was assaulted but that level of assault in no way warranted deadly force.

you acknowledge that there WAS assault
and the survivor defended himself with a legal weapon
how was that shoot NOT legitimate?

You will find that many disagree with you.

Forcing people to retreat just allows violent attackers to get away with violence.......it encourages them to beat weaker people up.

Florida's law also protects victims of these attacks from civil suits by greedy relatives who seek to profit from their relative's crimes.

It's a good law.

Re: Another Stand Your Ground In Florida

Shooter is white victim was black

correction: the survivor is white the perpetrator was black

Well, a comparison to Martin/Zimmerman is fine, but the one poster here seems to want to rehash the whole thing.......and it's far more complex than he knows, I suspect.

Re: Another Stand Your Ground In Florida

The shooter instigated hostilities.
Another person going into the store stopped at the door and watched the shooter harassing the lady in the vehicle.
He's gone inside and obviously alerted other shoppers as to what is happening outside.
Victim has gone outside, saw the shooter having an altercation with his partner (who had two of their children in the vehicle) and he's pushed him to the ground.
Shooter pulls out his gun.
Everyone was backing away when the shooter shot him.
You shouldn't be able to just straight up murder someone like that without receiving consequences.

but neither should one be able to assault another as the now deceased did, with impunity
'stand your ground' removes that impunity

The Dean of Science Fiction said it well.

When more people learn and understand his wisdom.......there will be fewer incidents like the one here in question.

This death was caused totally by bad manners.

Parking in a handicap space can cause unneeded stress and pain to a handicapped person--bad manners (and illegal).

Arguing with someone who corrects you instead of moving your car--bad manners.

Slamming someone who corrects you to the ground--VERY bad manners--and again--illegal.

Manners.......some folk are just lacking.

Then why aren't we the most polite nation on earth? LOL

I don't agree. The way it's written one can stage a confrontation, shoot someone and walk as long as no one lives who can dispute their story. I completely support castle laws and the concept of SYG, but the way the one in FL is written is too lax.

I'm well aware that many don't agree with me. I don't stand with the gun grabbers on this, so maybe I stand alone. That's okay.

One can walk around looking for confrontations, attacking people verbally and then when it gets physical he can kill people. A dream come true for some

Re: Another Stand Your Ground In Florida

The law says if he felt his life was in danger he can shoot.

You ever been slammed to the ground for no reason by a big black man?

I didn't think so.

I watched the video. He was pushed. It didn't look like his life was in danger. He also started a confrontation over a parking spot. The entire incident was senseless.

And why do you keep bringing up race?

This all started over someone being too lazy to park in an appropriate and feeling the rules didn't apply to them. No one should loose their life over illegally parking. No one should be shoved for pointing out someone else is parked illegally.

Had the shooter called the cops and taken photos of the illegal parking job chances are it would be considered racist.

People parking in fire lanes and handicapped spaces is a pet peeve of mine. I hope I never find myself in this position.

I agree completely. They are jerks....but do not deserve the death penalty

Re: Another Stand Your Ground In Florida

the shooter only had to fear that great bodily harm was possible. from that video you watched, such possibility should have been obvious

He also started a confrontation over a parking spot.
and it is indicated this had been a topic of arguments the shooter had previously had with other parking violators at the same space at the same store. however, that gives no one authority to physically assault him. since you saw the video you also saw that assault

The entire incident was senseless.
my term would have instead been "needless"
had the vehicle the deceased arrived in parked legally, there would have never been a confrontation leading to the death of
the now deceased store patron who assaulted the shooter

And why do you keep bringing up race?
because it provides an obvious identification of the parties. note my sentence immediately above; it would have been easier and more effective to say "black guy" than "the now deceased store patron who assaulted the shooter"

in no instance have i found the OP to have alleged any action taken by or toward the men of either race was a result of their ethnicity. mention of race is a shorthand to distinguish between the two

I agree completely. They are jerks....but do not deserve the death penalty

no 'death penalty' was administered because someone parked illegally

the death was due to an unprovoked assault
