‘You can’t call her a slut?’

I don't think we're talking about different things. Anti-PC culture is rooted in the anger over things like not being able to call women sluts or use racial slurs. That's what this guy is hiding behind. I agree it's disgusting.

Considering one of the articles also has

He also wrote a passage in his 2011 book, "Power Divided is Power Checked," suggesting it wasn't the federal government's role to ban slavery.

"If you don't want to own a slave, don't. But don't tell other people they can't," he wrote.

In different measures. Calling a woman a "babe" is a far cry from calling her the c-word.

Agreed. Nonetheless, intention is everything. First, did the person using the word do so to mean 'bad', is it a pejorative. And second, could the person have meant the insult to include all of the group referenced, is it bigotry.

A woman calling another c is, to some extent, bigoted because the word used as a pejorative is founded in bigotry. But it's not bigotry; we can safely assume she doesn't mean women are inferior. In this way, an act can be bigoted and not bigotry.

Of course, there's always the lightning strike chance she's insane, self hating or internalized misogyny bigoted and does mean to use the term to include women are inferior, but let's not spend too much time worrying about lightning strikes.

I don't disagree with anything you posted.

I figure you'll agree with the paragraph I added in edit.

Just to double-check, you do mean ever, right?

It is part of our cultural mechanism to regulate overly promiscuous behavior. Overly promiscuous behavior is bad for society. What is in the realm of overly promiscuous behavior and not is up for all of us to decide as a community.

It is part of a passing Male dominated society where it was put on the women to remain chaste til marriage but men could/should sow their 'wild oats' before settling down. If overly promiscuous behavior is bad for society where is the public shaming of horn dog men??? What is the male equiv word for slut??? Stud???

Not a fan of the term slut, but certainly not a fan of your double standard... :peace

I've heard a woman called a "dick" before but that's beside the point.
It's a sexist slander on men. The only difference is that one is considered more socially acceptable than the other.

Men are not disadvantaged as a whole. So bigotry against them does not perpetuate systemic disadvantage. So it's not sexism. Bigotry? I suppose (we'll need to examine the inherent traits of the term) but not a big deal socially.

We do not suffer systemic disadvantage. Let's not equate what is effectively name calling with sexism, which is so much more. Doing that diminishes our understanding of sexism.

What double standard? Do you know me?

You have any idea how I view overly promiscuous men?

It is better for society for women to not be sluts. Less pregnancies, less STDs, less hurt feelings... the only reason why it was such a big deal for women to be protected that way is because they have a LOT to lose.

You are acting as if it's a good thing that men are sometimes pressured or praised to be a "horndog".... it is 100% a bad thing for them individually. They have an increased chance of getting STD's, getting taken advantage of legally, could have a child with a woman he doesn't want. It is completely ignorant of you to think this is actually in males favor.
this happens ALL THE TIME. Where guys lives are RUINED because of their poor choices in this behavior.

Are you familiar with the terms ****boy, manwhore, and womanizer? They are not compliments...

Nice twist and dodge but you didn't say both men and women shouldn't be promiscuous. Just women shouldn't....

Ummm STDs have historically been brought to new areas by men not women being promiscuous- syphilis came to Europe by sailors and then to the New World by sailors- ahhh men sailors.

All the 'threats' you see are easily blocked by using condoms. so it ain't 'just say no'...

I don't know the locker rooms, or barracks you hung out in but I don't recall guys being pressured into being horndogs... I recall a lot of bragging....

I will say the cultural attitudes toward sex favors men- Trump brags about manhandling females and Stormy is a slut.

In Trump land the terms you think are not compliments are in fact just that...

So yeah what you posted tells us a lot about your attitude toward what 'culture' dictates... :peace

Again, it is not favoring men in a good way... It is favoring men to engage is dysfunctional and dangerous behavior.

And what the hell are you talking about? This thread wasn't about men, so obviously I wouldn't bring it up. And I did say it directly in my post replying to you.
"You are acting as if it's a good thing that men are sometimes pressured or praised to be a "horndog".... it is 100% a bad thing for them individually."

I obviously think it's a bad thing for men to be overly promiscuous. I'll call a dude a slut any day of the week... though I prefer skumbag.

“But it used to be that women were held to a little bit of a higher standard. "

More like a double standard.

I've always looked down on people that sleep around, male, female... don't care. "Great, you can rut like a pig with other pigs... and?"

And the GOP wonders why it has lost the female demographic. Could very well be that Donald "***** Grabber" Trump and cretins like Rep. Jason Lewis turn that 51% of the population off.

I think the country is getting so poorly educated, people are running out of proper words so they default to vulgarity because their well is so shallow.

Again you didn't say that, you claimed it suited society for WOMEN to be chaste- not a WORD about both sexes.... :doh

I responded with only a male dominated society thinks that- what you 'think' separate from your post you didn't say.

Again where were you raised you never saw men being praised for nailing that slut... followed by laughs.... You think the girl's locker room was the same way???

It never was obvious until your double standard was pointed out... :peace

Yes......you can.......and "Slinking, shrieking, rapacious swamp sow" is also on the table.

He can say whatever he wants. Even sexist nonsense. But don't expect to get a safe space. You say stupid ****, others will call you out on it.

It’s all playing out the same way it did 44 years ago when I was in college, TG. This nightmare will be over by Labor Day. We will have to pray for our next President and ‘come together’ Beatles. We will survive this. We always do.

I am telling you right now, I find it both equally harmful from men and women to be overly promiscuous. If I wasn't clear about that before, then my bad.

I don't care what locker rooms think lol. I have no idea why you care. I am giving you the facts... it IS bad for society and harmful behavior, regardless what people say or do. I have yet to hear you say anything against this fact.

The reason why historically women were watched more as far as this behavior goes is because they used to have so much more to lose. It was incredibly damaging for woman to be promiscuous, their life was over if they got pregnant. Now days, laws have changed, and now the danger is more equal between men and women.

I've always looked down on people that sleep around, male, female... don't care. "Great, you can rut like a pig with other pigs... and?"

I don't look down on them but I don't really understand how they can do that.
