We have certainly spent a lot of time and energy talking about what Trump did at Helsinki and what he has done since. It is sickening but now attention needs to be turned around to "what can be done now to address this problem?" Mentioning the problem should now be over. It is time for action.

I would like to hear ideas of what all of us can do to make this situation better. Evidently, there is little we can personally do right now as the only ones with power to do something is the House and the Senate. Nonetheless, lets talk about how we can affect the House and the Senate and what we can do between now and the November elections to start changing the narrative that is being seen now.

You can start by falling in line with the Trump agenda! Liberals need to support their President! But they don't because COMMUNIST liberals don't like real Americans! Sad!

Have patience. Your multimedia masters will tell you what to think in due course.

What to do now? Wait for the facts to come in, wait for results, don't pay attention the mass hysteria. Life goes on.

Nothing can be done as long as Putin 's followers in the US congress protect Trump.

It's pretty simple.

GOTV.

nothing will happen because those with the power to actually do anything have no spine & no balls

they are scared of a political novice that has them all by their nuts & their political lives

America will have to do as Germany did & learn the hard lesson by having their nation destroyed for supporting a tyrant

Just shut your piehole and pay up! 8) NATO was formed to address Soviet aggression not the US.

Trump’s election and presidency have been a stress test on our system of government—checks and balances in particular. And that system is failing. Without a Congress willing to do anything aside from mealy-mouthing their way through statements of discomfort, there really isn’t much to do except whip up awareness, pressure lawmakers, and prepare to vote and push others to do the same. Trump only cares about his base and as he accurately observed, there’s effectively nothing he can do to alienate them. As several GOP lawmakers, staffers, and operatives have previously indicated, as long as that remains the case, they won’t be taking him on in earnest. It’s political suicide.

On of the dangers of democracy is highlighted when sacred and seemingly stable institutional mechanisms are overwhelmed by populist demagoguery and cults of personality.

You don’t expect this GOP Congress to act out of a principle of a sense of patriotic duty do you? As long as 90% of GOP voters signal there willingness to follow this guy through hell wearing gasoline underwear, they’ll remain paralyzed. The rest of us are largely bystanders—including the opposition in Congress. Sad but true.

I thought Trump was a *****/coward/traitor. You need to get your suppositions in sync.

Trump is a *****/coward/traitor; glad you finally realize that.

Why are you telling other members what to do? Telling others what to do is not your function as a member here, is it?

He's definitely two of those and maybe the third. That doesn't mean he can't do a tremendous amount of damage if enabled by a band of complicit lesser cowards afraid to primaried by some fanatic because they dared question the president that their voters have come to regard as some mythical hero. Consider the pathetic background quote from an actual GOP congressman in which he said, paraphrased,
"what's the point of condemning or opposing this president? Nothing will really change and I'll just get primaried by some crazy person. What's the use in committing suicide?"

Yeah. That happened Tuesday.

Short term, a bipartisan coalition of congressional reps could get together to neuter Trump's bad policy. As voters we should take note of what our reps stated positions are, and let them know whether you agree or disagree. They need positive support as much as correction when you disagree.

I'd encourage them to resist intelligently, accepting those rare occasions when Trump's policy is the best option, publicly explaining why he's wrong when he's wrong in a clear, logical fashion. The purpose here isn't to beat Trump or run him out of office, but help the nation navigate this mess towards the greater good. It shouldn't be hard. It wouldn't be hard, if the so much of the electorate didn't (figuratively) crave bloody vengeance (that's on both sides.)

Also, we need to select the candidate that will defeat Trump ASAP. That we don't know who it is yet is quite worrisome for me. If the Dems have a messy primary with 10 candidate taking extreme positions, that will work in Trump's favor. 2020 is going to be here in no time. We need clear-eyed adults making the right moves now. Goodness know they'll stand out from the pack when they appear.

I'd love to see the GOP to put up some serious competition for Trump in their primary, but I don't expect it.

You are joking aren't you? Falling in line with the Trump agenda means accepting Putin as our President and accepting giving him everything we have built over 240 years. Are you suggesting we do that?

Have patience. Your multimedia masters will tell you what to think in due course.

Oh, you mean to say that the media faked the press conference between Trump and Putin in which Trump bowed to Putin and gave up the United States to Putin to do as he wants. That was a fake news conference?

Not joking! Yes, you do what Trump says, and you liberals need to give him what he wants! Trump is our President, and he is making America great again!

Nope.

The multimedia told you what to think about the press conference.

So your suggesting is that we blindly follow Trump as he is our Daddy and he knows best, Right?

Nope.

So tell me as I am curious. What did you personally think (without any comments from the media) when Trump said, "Putin told me in a strong way that he did not meddle in our election and I believe him. Our intelligence community is wrong". What went through YOUR mind when he threw our intelligence community under the bus and gave Putin the reason.

He knows better than clueless liberals and soyboy Democrats! MAGA!

Does that mean that you don't have a brain and think for yourself? You need to be led by Trump on what you personally think?

I thought Trump was a *****/coward/traitor. You need to get your suppositions in sync.

Well he certainly knows how to dodge the draft and let Putin tell him what to do.

Are you suggesting we give up?
At the risk of sounding argumentative, what does that even mean? My wife and I are actually pretty politically active and plan to work hard (as ex-Republicans, no less) to help to flip as many seats in the upcoming midterms as we can. We stay in contact with our representatives. We plan to give a total of about $8K this cycle (not exactly baller material, but a significant commitment for regular professionals in their 30s planning to start a family). I mean what does not giving up look like? I spent all my life as a Republican, and was pretty active in college but couldn't really do a whole lot as an active duty military officer. I've never been the marching/protesting type anyway, though I certainly cheer on people who peacefully do so if that's how they want to stay involved. I'll probably take off from work and drive folks around Fairfax, Prince William, and Loudon counties to vote on 6 November. I'm pretty confident my Congresswoman (whom I actually like and respect, as I may have mentioned before) is going down. Barbara Comstock in the VA-10. We're backing Jenn Wexton, whom we've yet to meet and whose policy positions I generally don't support. But hey, being an adult is about prioritizing, I suppose.

I'm going to wait and see whether the evidence they present about actual collusion seems valid. That's what we should do.

if they can't officially present anything before election day, then I will vote Republican, as I don't like having supposed damning evidence played with for political purposes.
