TENSIONS SIMMER IN THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ: “The U.S. Navy stands ready to ensure free navigation and the flow of commerce, the U.S. military’s Central Command said on Thursday, as Iran’s Revolutionary Guards warned they would block oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz if necessary,” reports Reuters.

“[Iranian President Hassan] Rouhani and some senior military commanders have threatened in recent days to disrupt oil shipments from the Gulf countries if Washington tries to cut Tehran’s exports. ..."

Another powder keg. The Iranians have ample reason to hate us. Stay tuned.

Have you noted Iranian harassment of US Navy vessels in the Straight in now non existent?

Seriously, at this point, a fair question is, whose side are you on?

Would you really take the Iranian side in this -- the terroristic, aggressive assault on world trade and world order, and actual acts of war -- just because of your pique with Trump?

They are going to hate us even more when Trump ramps up sanctions and then starts sinking their ships.

The navigable channel there is very narrow. It wouldn't be all that difficult to disrupt maritime traffic.

Even a false claim (of mines for example) would back things up.

personally, I would like to see the Iranians block the straight

let's see if Trump actually has any balls, and if he does have a pair, how big are they? Smallish? lol ........

Uncalled for calling him a traitor. He never stated such. He stated it is a powder keg. The ME is a powder keg.

I didn't call him anything. I asked a question. A question fairly raised by his post.

Who is surprised? Trump has a global trade war going, he has given our allies much reason to distrust us, he completely boogered up NK, he has as much as told NATO not to depend on the US and Kushner's peace in the Middle East tour got cooked in the squat. So with no adults left in the White House Trump is only a few fried chicken buckets away from lighting the fuse to big conflict with Iran.

I'm confused. Are you referring to Trump or Iran or both?

Horse pucky. Me I am far to old for that crap. Apparently you are not

I said I asked a question fairly raised by his post, and you quoted me as asking a question fairly raised by his post. Not sure what the "horse pucky" is.

I'll bet you ruined your shorts while the Navy sailors were in captivity...………..huh Jack?

Trump ripping up the JCPOA had only one beneficiary, Putin's Russia. There were others that were pleased but Putin's Russia is the only real beneficiary. Predicted and coming to pass. Now Trump has even co-opted GOP Senators to support weakened positions in our dealings with Russia. The entire thing is disgusting.

That's not what this is about, in the larger view.
We don't own the Strait of Hormuz either, just an FYI, it's not the Panama Canal.
And one might wish to consider the fact, the HISTORICALLY ACKNOWLEDGED FACT, that despite our military superiority, if the Iranians decided to shut the Strait of Hormuz, even if we DID attack them in retaliation, it WILL BE SHUT. It will either be shut or seriously restricted.

Don't take my word for it, I've just read a lot of material over the years about this issue. We could slow their effort to close it down but in the end, we would not be able to stop them entirely. The Strait of Hormuz would indeed be closed down or choked to a trickle and the result would be a disastrous spike in oil prices. Even given the best case scenario, military action in the Strait would drastically affect global oil prices anyway.

The only comfort that we have is the fact that Iran admits that it would amount to an almost suicide last ditch move, which should leave cooler heads able to recognize that such a stroke isn't likely outside of a full blown war situation. Closing the Strait is, for Iran, a war action, not empty saber rattling, and not merely a "strategy move" for them to get what they want.

I smell John Bolton's fingers all over this.

Trump created this problem by reneging on a deal. Trump ripping up the Iran agreement just leads to war with Iran. Trump has no solutions. He campaigned claiming he had a great solution for Healthcare and for Iran. He has nothing. No Iran deal and no North Korea deal. He just has a bunch of trade wars.

Just an phony threat by the Revolutionary Guard is enough to spike oil prices.
Guess who wins? Russia. Again.

For Christ sakes...……..

The Straights were in complete chaos when Obama was president also. Most sane people didn't blame Obama for it either!

Of course they would. They take Iran's side, Mexico's side, North Korea's side, Cuba's side, China's side, anybody's side but ours. They are basically America haters and Trump has given them license to expose themselves.

Of course you would, you take Trump's side, Russia's side (oh wait, SAME THING) Joseph McCarthy's side, anyone who will assist you in your continual red-baiting. You are basically a democracy hater and you feel you have a license to promote one-party rule and the criminalization of liberals. Can the Palmer Raids be far behind?

So if the Iranians attack a US vessel, that helps you how?

BTW, this is also a message to China who plans to treat the south China sea as their personal toll highway.

Rather hilarious. I take the US side when dealing with our sworn enemies. That's what most people who support the country do. However, the raving left doesn't support the country and is only happy when other like minded America haters are occupying high office. That's why they are hysterical over Trump. As for liberals, I don't believe in criminalizing them, only keeping them as far from the levers of power as possible.

No, if they attack a U.S. vessel we blow them out of the water, of course.
And I don't think any reasonable person has a problem with that, not a conservative and not a liberal, they gotta do what they gotta do.
That's not the larger issue however.
The larger issue is, Iran will STILL SUCCEED at restricting or closing the Strait anyway, it's their gig, they've refined the methodology for almost forty years.
We can blow a hundred of their little Revolutionary Guard boats out of the water but it still won't stop their plan if they make that move.
All it will do is slow them down.
