Engineers from Elon Musk's aerospace company SpaceX and tunnel construction company Boring Co. are headed to Thailand tomorrow, according to Musk.

On Friday, billionaire Elon Musk tweeted that engineers from two companies he founded — SpaceX and the Boring Company — were heading to Thailand to aid in the rescue efforts of a soccer team trapped in a flooded cave.

The 12 teen boys and their coach were found alive Monday in the Tham Luang Nang Non cave system in Northern Thailand, but rescue efforts have been thwarted by the region's monsoon season, and it could take months to retrieve the group.
=======================================
The current thinking is that the leat hazardous way to get these people out of the cave is to dig a shaft down from the surface. Musk's companies have the equipment & expertise to do that.

Good.

But that coach. That ****ing coach. What was he thinking? Did he not know and not research this cave system?

At least one death is on his conscience now, or should be - the retired thai SEAL who didn't make it, today.

I keep hoping they'll find another cave opening. The boys said they could hear dogs barking and children playing...and they seem to be getting enough air so there must be a shaft nearby...if they can only find it.

I blame that coach. This cave system must be well known locally, especially due to the water flooding hazard. And this is the monsoon season, so there should have been signs or gates.

Really your blaming the coach?

Glad musk is offering his resources to assist. Can't we all unite and pitch in and everyone hope for the best instead of looking for a villain.

Uhh.....well I am kinda blaming the coach for taking those kids in there. Did they have a choice?

Maybe the news reports omitted key details, but it sounds like it was known that these caves flood in rains, etc. And even if not, I'd make absolutely sure that a cave system was safe before taking anyone miles in.

Should I blame a deity instead?

It's sort of like people who go up a serious mountain climb without proper gear, then need rescuing. Except this cost one life already and it's probably going to cost more. I hate to see people die because they're shouldering the cost of someone else's poor judgment, even if they signed up to do exactly that.

I hope I'm wrong. But...yeah...I am criticizing this coach's judgment, even from across the globe. He lead them in. Leader has responsibility, no?

I also didn't say a thing to criticize Musk. Musk is, as usual, doing the general right thing. But that's neither here nor there as it relates to the subject.

I didn't say or mean to imply that you criticized musk I just find it kinda weird your blaming a victim for this.

The boys said they could hear dogs barking and children playing.

The problem is they've now been stuck in a cave for some time, unfortunately that could be the result of sensory deprivation and extreme mental strain, the brain can do weird things under those circumstances.

I'm not saying its impossible that they did hear it and it is real, in fact that would be great if it does turn out to be true because it means maybe they could drill a hole down.

I'm glad you are so morally superior.

:roll

The coach was the leader. He led the kids in. Unless every report I've seen is wrong, this was not a set of caves they should have been in, especially at that time of year.

Want a rough analogy? Leader takes boy scouts to shooting range, fails to tell them to always keep the gun pointing down-range, about the safety, etc. That it's a tragedy if some die does not mean it is somehow wrong or "weird" to wonder about what the leader was thinking.

I can only hope the rest get out.

Like I do my Thai food I give Musk's idea - five stars!

I recently saw a video that explained the biology of depression. The area of the brain that controls the fight vs flight response is called the amygdala. It responds to stress by sending nerve impulses to the adrenal glands to trigger production of stress hormones: epinephrine (adrenaline), norepinephrine & cortisol. The first 2 stimulate the brain cells. Too much stimulation for too long & these cells essentially burn out. The result is depression.

Rough analogy #2

Woman wearing a skirt gets raped, people blame her for being raped because of her proactive clothing choice

That has to be one of the stupidest *gotcha* attempts I've seen. It is simply retarded.
