WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the nation’s largest business group and customarily a close ally of President Donald Trump’s Republican Party, is launching a campaign on Monday to oppose Trump’s trade tariff policies.

You can't accomlish much in politics if you don't have the Chamber behind you.

Actually, Trump has dismissed Tom Donohue and the CoC since he came down that escalator way back in 2015...and with good reason.

The thing is, JacksinPA, if you only go by what you read in the Mainstream Media you really don't know a damned thing about Donohue and the CoC. You need to look elsewhere.

I'm here to help you, though. Here is an article from back in Jan. 2016 that accurately depicts exactly who Donohue and the CoC are, who they support and why they oppose Trump on every issue. (it's all about BIG money)

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is not even remotely similar to the local Chambers’ of Commerce that most people might be familiar with. The U.S. CoC sets the legislative priorities for congress and tells Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan what to do.

At the very heart of our nation’s political strife you will find the U.S. CoC’s legislative priorities which are antithetical to American Values and American Interests. The CoC is looking out for international corporations and the upper echelon of Wall Street interests.

It is from the U.S. CoC you find the demand for: Retention of ObamaCare, implementation of Federal Common Core education standards; advancement of Trans-Pacific Trade Deal; and Comprehensive Immigration Reform to include amnesty.

Tom Donohue spends unlimited money to protect the corporate interests of his group. It is Donohue’s team who negotiate the details, write the laws, and place their thumbs on the scales of benefit, always looking out for their own globalist best interests:

The usual "Trump is trying to save us from ___________". Fill in the blanks. The Right has a list as long as your arm at this point and its all garbage.

Trump does not care! He is not trying to protect anybody from anything. In many ways he does not even try to protect himself, not if it means deserting his MO which he believes in completely. He is the most corrupt and least risk averse man I have ever seen that was not actually sitting atop an outright violent criminal gang.

Trump is the head of a cult; he has tens of millions of enablers drinking the TrumpAide .........

Tariffs are always a bad idea. As usual, Trump picks the worst time to do anything. So as bad as Tariffs are generally, Trump has really stuck his foot in it.

Why? Because he is forcing countries to join up and/or resist independently wherever they can. If Trump had done this at the end of a second term just for example, those he is starting this fight with could reasonably expect that making some concessions to the outgoing President would make sense. However, Trump is leaving them no option but to fight. They cannot, I REPEAT, cannot give in and encourage a President that they might have to be dealing with even for the next two years. They will resist and take the hits to their economies that result watching as the most impatient country on the face of the planet, the US, takes its hits and how we respond to them. They will try to make effort to negotiate out of this but their efforts will be focused on trying to convince the American President that this is a path to destruction for everybody.

Trump supporters will obviously have more patience than his detractors. But he is kidding himself if he thinks he will overturn decades of a political consciousness that exudes impatience. Impatience oozes out of us for any issue that we really care about and we really care about our money.

Look what Trump has already done. China is the world's greatest IP theft abuser. Yes I know they are not the only one. But the others pale in comparison. So much so that pointing at the others is a specious argument, a dodge. China has massive industrial resources to bring to bear and as such, they get the most advantage from their IP theft. Yet, we have countries lining up in multinational trade deals WITH CHINA, leaving us out. So how the heck is that supposed to help resolve our IP theft issues with China?

Why do you think Trump is railing at Harley. Harley is simply the beginning and I would not be so cheery about the Foxconn deal either. In putting a plant here, Foxconn will simply be planting an IP theft flag and vehicle on our own shores, within our own borders. Whatever cost they incur paying US wage rates and adhering to US workplace safety rules will be nothing compared to the IP theft benefits that will accrue to them.

Tariffs were always a bad idea, worse now that the world that they might have at least made some sense in no longer exists.

In fact Trump's nonsense about Tariffs reminds me of his nonsense about NATO. When Trump talks about the 2% non-binding standard that NATO allies sign up to he makes it sound like its dues that they should be paying to NATO. He talks about "the money flowing into NATO". That is entirely false, garbage, nonsense. The 2% is a goal set for defense spending into their own defense budgets for their own defense.

While I am at it, its worth mentioning that only one country has received the benefit of invoking Article 5 of NATO. That one country was the United States and the country that offered to the other NATO allies that they should vote to invoke Article 5 was.....Canada.

At some point this utter and complete BS which is the Trump administration from top to bottom must be acknowledged.
