Trump appointee: governments should have no role in curbing racism and xenophobia

All Americans have come from s**t hole countries. Why would anyone make the trip they were happy where they were?

I, as well as many others, were born here, so you are incorrect.

I swear this is the twilight zone. I never thought I would live to see the day when the United States would argue that, in the name of freedom, governments should have no role in Attempting to curb racism and xenophobia.

The United Nations has always maintained that racism and xenophobia are incompatible with modern democracies. But a Trump appointee to the state department ( what little is left of its remnants) has now argued that this violates freedom and the US will have no part of it.

In speaking about the UN document condemning racism and xenophobia, this is what he says about the people of our country and our president:

Read the full article. It is absolutely shocking the kind of people now running our country. Someone pinch me and tell me this is not real. This is not normal.

While I agree 100% "governments should have no role in Attempting to curb racism and xenophobia." is a insane statement by itself and i dont want any government official ever thinking that way im not sure its being sold quite that way. Im not sure the article is being just in its presentation.

There is something absolutely in the middle that should be done, we do it and it makes me glad. Equal rights are fought for, education, criminal activity based on bigotry etc I support all those things. Where people seem to get nervous (and rightfully so) is their feelings about trying to make thought illegal.

Now that is where the wheels fall off for some people, because their feelings of that is basically anything and everything so they cry about it but here in america you are free to feel, think, teach, speak how you want about things in general and theres no laws stopping that. I also support that 100% You want to preach, feel, think being gay, black, christian, a women etc etc is lesser, wrong, evil etc etc you have that right(with in reason across ie threats). Where the government must always step in is if you ACT (like was mentioned) against those individuals and try to infringe on their rights and or break the law against them etc

I, as well as many others, were born here, so you are incorrect.

I think your parents, or grandparents, or maybe a few generations back further, would tell you what kind of countries they were leaving behind to come here. So all of a sudden you act like people from such countries are innately less human and worthy of consideration.

I think your parents, or grandparents, wou

My parents and grandparents (on one side) were born here. The other grandparents came from Italy, which is far from a ****hole country.

What the UN is purposing is anti 1st amendment, so f@ck them and kudos to Andrew Veprek for dismissing that anti American BS. Why can't all the freedom hating commies go to Venezuela or some other socialist sh!thole.

WTF are you? A Russian plant! LOL!

It’s not just about the UN. Because long experience has shown that racism and xenophobia are the first steps to human rights violations and unstable two bit banana republics.

The UN universal declaration of human rights was spearheaded by the United States in 1948 to create a politically and economically more stable world. Now we have pulled out of the UN council on human rights, and act like these values are something alien. Weird.

Human rights abuses in America is a myth created by the open borders crackpots.

Hey Russia guy!

I was just joking after reading your profile! It was humorous!

U R OK Dude! My apologies are in order to you and the forum!

What's scary is the UN who takes it upon themselves to condemn "words" as racist...How do "words" threaten democracy? Seems to me that banning words is a threat to democracy, but what does a a freedom loving person like me know?

The deputy assistant secretary for refugees and migration, a foreign service officer promoted by the White House to an unusually senior position for his rank, disputed the idea that leaders have a "duty" to condemn hate speech and incitement, and repeatedly rejected use of the words nationalism, populism, and xenophobia.

"The drafters say 'populism and nationalism' as if these are dirty words," wrote Andrew Veprek, the deputy assistant secretary for refugees and migration, in documents obtained exclusively by CNN. "There are millions of Americans who likely would describe themselves as adhering to these concepts. (Maybe even the President.). So are we looking to here condemn our fellow-citizens, those who pay our salaries?

As a freedom loving person like you... I agree, it is scary that the UN wants to condemn words. I would like to see the answers to your question... How do words threaten democracy?

I think the answer is quite simple. Words do not threaten democracy. I agree, banning words is a threat to democracy.

1st the condemnation, next the banning, followed up by voluntary compliance, followed up by the forced compliance >or else< >>> "this is what will happen to you" if you do not comply.

We can only guess right now, just how scary "this is what will happen to you" may be, if we do not comply. (imho)

Roseann:)

Italy? Is that even considered being white? It wasn’t for a lot no time. When did that change?

Forget the border. The UN considers human rights to be things like food, water, shelter, a basic education, and access to healthcare. Those are no longer considered rights .

Forget the borders. Human rights include the right to food, water, shelter, a basic education, and access to healthcare. These are under siege for our own citizens right now.

EVERY citizen in America has access to these things.

Yes we do.

LOL! Yes, we now have Trump's dark and ugly version of America- and then we have everyone else's America- America the beautiful!

Actually, that's sad- not funny!

IMO no credible case can be made for populism or nationalism being threats to democracy. Neo-nationalism can be a thread to order, be it democratic order or any other kind of order but it does not appear that the author used the term Neo-nationalism which I assume he knew he could have used.

It should be obvious that Trumpism can be a threat to democracy and I don't wonder that people are still unwilling to call a spade a spade and used populism and nationalism in the place of Trumpism. That would not surprise me...an overexercised use of "code" that ultimately failed. If you can't say what you really mean to say and are left so unable to find a course in code for what you are trying to relate, then thinking harder would be my recommendation.

But its actually even a bit worse than that right because the piece is calling people out for claiming populism and nationalism are threats to democracy. I guess I have not paid that much attention probably because that would be an absurd claim IMO and if somebody is making it, I probably would not pay much attention to it.

Gotta love some posters. Instead of admitting they are wrong, they deflect with stupid comments that don't make any sense to deflect.
