Mean America

That's it I think. I dropped cable, so I don't watch any of the cable news offerings. Keep watching. Johnson will get around to the hoped deterrent value eventually.
Either that clip doesn't contain it, I missed it, or it was never there.

I don't feel like searching for it ATM.

I'm not infallible, but I distinctly remember hearing that during the interview. Like you, I'm not revisiting it. It's old news, and I could discover that I'm losing my marbles, and if I am, I don't want to know it. In any case, it didn't work during the Obama administration, and it's not working now. That's obvious, and so the policy has changed - at least temporarily. Hopefully a better, more permanent solution can be found.

The best solution is to improve things in central america so people don't want to leave as much.

I agree. It also happens to be the most difficult solution. We tend to avoid those things, but sometimes a bandaid is insufficient.

The bleeding heart snowflakes, with their faux outrage, hyperbole and hypocrisy FINALLY have a target because they were not allowed to satisfy their urges against Obama or Hillary.

Come on, darlings...let's see who can ratchet up the rhetoric to the highest level.

Another post from a Trump supporter. , enough said!

The difference might be how they got here. Most immigrants came through Ellis Island, the legal way, back then.

The economics of immigrants have changed.

IMMIGRANTS USED TO BE FREE

In the days of Ellis Island, if an immigrant passed the health exam, they got admitted. (If they flunked they got put on the next boat home). BUT THERE WAS NO WELFARE - NO UNEMPLOYMENT - NO FOOD STAMPS -- NOTHING.

In 1900 the USA made a profit on every immigrant.

Today illegal immigrants cost us 89 billion dollars a year in increased welfare.

I think your post wins the ratcheting up prize, darling.

What happened to the America famous for being welcoming and generous? Donald Trump happened, for one thing, though Trump clearly struck a chord waiting to be struck and in a little more than a year we have become famous for being closed off and selfish. Maureen Dowd has a column in the New York Times this morning about Ivanka's disappointing performance as first daughter. But her broader theme is the deadening of the American spirit we used to know under the leadership of her father. Read it. Here is one line.

"As a former top Trump administration official recently told me, “Donald Trump is the meanest man I’ve ever met.”

Why can't the open border folks tell the difference between legal and illegal immigration?
The United States welcomes legal immigrants with open arms and we do that to the tune of about
a million each year. Each year one million legal people come here for the American dream. American is a good and generous place to live.

A country has borders and those border need to be enforced. Illegal aliens are not welcome here because they are violating the law! When will the democrats stop making excuses for them?
Come here the legal way. Stop taking cuts in the long line of legal immigrants waiting for their turn to live in the greatest country.

I'm not claiming that Republicans are against legal immigration. The legal immigration system just isn't talked about enough. I don't understand how anybody could think that most of these illegal immigrants could afford to wait around for a year plus to legally immigrate. Most of these illegal immigrants aren't coming here because they're bored or something. The immigration system in general is a mess.

So you support open borders. Can anyone come here because they have an excuse why they won't do it the legal way?

Hitler was trying to convince those who were planning to engage in homosexual acts to make different plans. He was trying to convince Jews planning on staying in business to make different plans. The point is Trump's way of "convincing" is immoral.

But you at least are trying.

Nothing but Godwin garbage..... Why do people do that?

If you mention Adolf Hitler or Nazis within a discussion thread, you've automatically ended whatever discussion you were taking part in.

Certainly true when the reference is not called for. In this case, a government policy of: in the President's words: "You have to take away the children" including breastfeeding babies from their mothers, is exactly Nazi like.

My excuse was in the comment you quoted. A lot of illegal immigrants are poor, and they don't have the time to just sit around a wait for legal immigration.

Mike Goodwin thought up 'Goodwin's Law', well before the rise of Trump. I've pointed out the dictatorial traits Trump has in common with your average Hitler like despot numerous times.

No one can deny Trump's scorn for our democratic allies and his praise for our dictatorship enemies. That being the case, if Hitler were alive now, what do you think Trump would be doing, denouncing or praising him?!?

Get a clue...

Like you say, putting children in interment camps is Nazi like, but his supporters love it. Just before the war Hitler had an 80 to 90 percent approval rating. What's Trumps approval rating with his believers right now??

If the shoe fits...

Oh the old "too poor to wait" barnyard by product.

Instead they can afford to pay a cartel sponsored guide thousands of dollars to guide them across the border....

The real problem is they KNOW they are not qualified for asylum status and are trying to jump the line into America.
Their plan B (parachute) is to claim asylum if they get caught and hope to play "catch and release".

Only now they have learned can bring a "get our of jail free" kid along with them.

Gee did they have Gallup polls in NAZI Germany ??????

Sometimes posters can be so silly.

Gallup polls blew the 1946 election - they had Dewey beat Truman. Primary reason is mostly rich folk had telephones to be polled and skewed the results.

Likely a public opinion poll in Nazi Germany would have been either verboten, or too risky to give the wrong answer.

And sometimes posters can be in denial. Claiming Hitler's believers weren't fanatical in their support is laughable. I fear that many of Trump believers follow his lead and refuse to read. If they would open a history book they just might learn something...

"Berlin, Monday, Aug. 20 -- Eighty-nine and nine-tenths per cent of the German voters endorsed in yesterday's plebiscite Chancellor Hitler's assumption of greater power than has ever been possessed by any other ruler in modern times. Nearly 10 per cent indicated their disapproval..."

From the German magazine Speigel:
"...Much suggests, in fact, that between the death of Hindenburg in August 1934 and the expansion into Austria and the Sudetenland four years later Hitler was indeed successful in gaining the backing of the vast majority of the German people, something of immeasurable importance for the disastrous course of German policy ahead. Apart perhaps from the immediate aftermath of the astonishing victory in France in summer 1940, Hitler's popularity was never higher than at the height of his foreign-policy successes in 1938..."

"...Whatever the true, core source of his malevolent charisma, there's simply no getting around the fact that, for more than a decade in the middle part of the 20th century, men, women and children were drawn, in droves, to Hitler and his message. Here, LIFE.com offers color pictures by Hitler's personal photographer, Hugo Jaeger, that testify to the Führer's mass popularity, and the often frenzied response he was able to elicit from otherwise staid citizens of the Reich..."

GOLLY GEE WIZ --- DID TRUMP INVENT THE FAKE MEDIA ????

You can post what German news papers of the day printed in their paper. You are printing nothing about the methodology which went behind making those 89.5% figures.

No one argues that Hitler did not have tremendous support.... but he was also a dictator and one of the first things any dictator does is seize control of the news media.

After Hitler was in power, chances are the 89.5% figure originated from the propaganda branch of the Nazi party.
