No... they should be sent back to Mexico City, or the other nearest port of entry in Mexico, where they can apply for asylum there.

That is international law.

They must apply at the “first safe country”.

Mexico comes before the US.

Send the families back to Mexico.

That is their language and culture. From there, they can visit one of our friendly US Embassies, and apply for entry to the US if they so chose.

We are told that a lot of these people maybe even most are not Mexican. Good luck finding facts, seems like nobody wants to talk about where these people breaking in today belong. Knowing that would inform us on what a rational system would look like....if we ever got a wild hair and were interested in that sort of thing.

They would need to have come from Mexico City to be sent back to it.

International law does not say they must apply at the first safe country - that is a myth.

Tell me, Zimmer, what will be the process for that?

If I'm a Latin American-looking man caught illegally crossing the border and I tell border patrol that I'm from Mexico, when I'm really from Honduras, what then?

You are missing the point. If you are from Honduras seeking asylum, then you should be able to find asylum in the first country you come to. Thats not the US.

A for mejicans...there is no need for mejicans to seek asylum...they just want to get out of their ****hole country. And while its hard to blame them for that, it doesnt mean we should just erase our immigration laws. We cannot support and sustain every ****hole country and their populations. We have enough trouble trying to feed and keep safe the people living in the major cities in the US.

You talkin about the Safe Third Country Agreement

Requiring them to follow the law, which unfortunately we already know they cannot do properly.

Oh really? Tell me exactly what constitutes an ideal strategy for refugees, since you seem to know something about it.

What do we normally do to people who lie to the US government?

You think you did. Doesn't mean you actually did.

Nope...I did. They should travel through 6 countries on foot to reach the magic kingdom. That’s not seeking refuge. That’s seeking a golden ticket.

You don't understand. What exactly makes you the expert on immigration policy?

(And don't even try the pathetic attempt to flip the question onto me. You're the one who thinks it's okay to rip families apart.)

Mexico doesn't qualify as a "safe country" because Americans keep buying their drugs and selling their criminals everything up to and including .50 caliber sniper rifles.

I don’t think it’s ok to rip families apart. I think families should be kept together...and when they are caught illegally entering the country sent home together.

I also think your pretense of concern about families is a sick ****ing joke. You and people like you said not a ****ing word when those precious ‘families’ you pretend to give a **** about sent 70,000 children a year, unaccompanied, to this country illegally where many of them were beaten, raped, killed, died from the journey, used as sex slaves, and where 25,000 of them at a whack ended up in those cages Obama built in the first ****ing place. That you and others will use them now to make political gains...well...how can we be shocked by anything you ****ing people do?

Correct. The law, which the right lie about when they say it should be enforced, requires the US to allow asylum requesters to remain in the US while their request is being considered.

Good. We may as yet be able to find a small amount of common ground.

Oh please, go find the world's biggest fainting couch. The bottom line is that our immigration system is utterly broken and needs a complete overhaul.

Horse****. That’s literally regurgitated horse****. We bring in a million legal immigrants a year. The only thing that is ‘broken’ is too many people are invested in ignoring immigration laws.

So you think our current immigration system is okay? You think it's okay that thousands of families remain separated and that it will be very difficult to reunite many of them? Or that children have to represent themselves in immigration courts? And yes, before you try the pathetic "Obama did it too" comeback, I am well aware of the second article's publication date. I had some serious issues with Obama's immigration policies. But tRump is just making a bad situation worse. "He alone can fix it"--remember??
