Trump Scraps Obama-Era Protections for Oceans

6/22/18
President Trump has done away with Obama-era policies aimed at protecting the world’s oceans and instead issued an executive order calling for marine environments to be used to promote economic growth. Trump’s order downsizes the Ocean Policy Committee established by former President Barack Obama in the wake of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Several regional planning bodies will also be eliminated.

More of the constant Trump administration efforts to ruin the national/global environments in order to increase [already obscene] corporate profits.

It goes beyond that. Trump is angry that Obama publicly made fun of him at the big dinner a few years ago and ever since has been obsessed with getting his revenge. This is simply part of that. His goal is to erase every single thing Obama ever did as president.

And if he has to poison the environment to do it - he could not care less.

The word petty does not begin to describe the outright evil that is Trump.

If only we had known trump would be the next president.

Obama could have cut taxes, trashed all environmental protections, deregulated everything, even built a wall on the southern border.

And trump would now be raising taxes, protecting the environment regulating at a fevered pace and "tear down that wall!" Would be his catch phrase.

I am not kidding.

Trump just has a list of things Obama did and he crosses them off between tweets on the toilet as he elimnates each one.

There is no thought beyond this.

I actually think trump is mad at Obama for trolling him (most expertly by the way) by releasing his long form the day corso's book was released. Trump had been riding the release of corso's book with his own birther nonsense.

And Obama made fools of them both. All those books printed and now landfill. All that publicity trump was getting for his brand based on the amazing things his investigators were finding in Hawaii, POOF!

Trump was furious.

What exactly is the impact if this going to be? The source was a little thin on that aspect of the story.

This administration if full of goofballs, people that have not been taken seriously for decades. Ross, Navarro, Bolton...goofballs.

Mick Mulvaney wants to merge the Labor Department with the Education Dept and uses examples about how food is processed and the various regulatory and jurisdictional mechanisms that occur between the FDA and the Agriculture Dept. Well Mick, since you are using FDA and Agriculture, but have no examples to offer from Labor and Education, why aren't you making the case to merge FDA and the Agriculture? We know why. Mick. Because you are a goofball well mated to the other goofballs in the wildly incompetent Trump administration.

Let's be honest here, the protections Obama put into place were an attempt to cover for his administration's grave error in waiving the safety tests for the Deep Water Horizon. Why punish all for his administration's mistakes?

Global doom and human extinction of course - just like using fossil fuels does (unless it is by driving/flying to attend an econut protest march or conference).

What do we even use the oceans for? You can't drink the water. Might as well just throw whatever you want into it.

Yeah. It';s a great big toilet that flushes twice a day.

This sounds great if your only focus is the economy. You have to also think about sustainability, and the ocean like any ecosystem, has its limits. The oceans are being overfished and serve as a dumping ground. All that sounds great now until the consequences really hit and then there will be the great scramble to fix it.

Look who he put in charge of the EPA. These folk aren't really thinking about the environment or future consequences of over commercialization or pollution. In fact, I think over commercialization and pollution is their goal. They're like villains from Captain Planet, lol.

From the posts here, it looks like it's just the "every regulation is sacred" argument.
