Character is resolved by impeachment.
-- Ann Coulter

Impeachment is a much lower standard. Simply that this civil officer is not fit to hold his office.
-- Ann Coulter

I think [adultery] could be a high crime and misdemeanor....but adultery by itself...I don't know. I suppose you could have debates about that.
-- Ann Coulter

Not knowing her name for the first two sexual encounters. That is reprehensible enough that it is clearly a high crime and misdemeanor, as is drunkeness.
-- Ann Coulter

The idea that [an impeachable offense] has to be some sort of grand abuse of power...in [the U.S.] has fallen to impeaching squalid little judges for sordid misconduct, and that is what it's for in [the U.S.]
-- Ann Coulter

The amazing thing about this president is watching standards crumble over the course of a couple of years. Each step he takes, people say, "Okay, fine. That's okay."
-- Ann Coulter

There are different standards for what office it is you are fit for. Just as you would expect a man to be more fit for the Supreme Court rather than an appellate court, the president is especially supposed to be fit.
-- Ann Coulter

The Founders, for example, expected Congressmen to be rogues. All three authors of The Federalist Papers described what sort of man would be elevated into the Office of the Presidency. It was always supposed to be a virtuous man, and they used that word. All three of them.
-- Ann Coulter

[The president is] supposed to the most virtuous [man in the country].

Thread discussion questions:

  • Do Ms. Coulter's views seem to have changed? Why or why not, and regardless of which, what be the justification for the change in or maintenance of her expressed stance?
  • How Conservatives/Republican attitudes, behavior and expressions see consistent with the views Ms. Coulter expressed about the nature and purpose of impeaching a POTUS? How so? How not?

Wait a ding dong minute! So Coulter was NOT talking about Trump in those quotes? :doh:roll:

I am shocked!!!!!!! Simply shocked!!!!!

Though it's important to point out lack of principles; I feel like this particular woman should be ignored and shunned.

Ann Coulter is a hypocritical hack. Wow, learn something new every day.

[*]Do Ms. Coulter's views seem to have changed? Why or why not, and regardless of which, what be the justification for the change in or maintenance of her expressed stance?

Yes.

Why? Because she's the definition of a hyperpartisan hack. Hyperpartisan in the sense that everything and anything in life must be seen through a political lens relating to her ideological side, everything must be about a left/right dynamic, everything must be turned into a political battle ground. She is a hack in the sense that said partisan breakdown is the driving force in her thoughts as opposed to principle or reasoned thought. Her actions, her views, her mentality isn't about being consistent with an ideological view or a set of principles, but is instead based around what, in her mind, gets her side points and what takes points away from the other side.

Anything that the "opposition" does, a hyperpartisan hack will view it in the worst case possible, find justifications for treating it differently and decrying it, give no benefit of the doubt, and treat it as significantly worse. Anything that "your side" does, a hyperpartisan hack will view it in the most lenient way possible, giving tons of benefit of the doubt, always funding justifications for treating it differently or it being okay, or to outright ignore it.

This goes beyond the standard reality of the tribal system our politics creates, where one is typically more outwardly vocal about disdain you have for the other side while seeking more quiet and calculated ways to deal with issues you have on your side. That is normal within any tribal dynamic (families, sports fans, etc). Hyperpartisans tend to take such tribalism styled protection and attitudes and turn it up to 11.

Given her current posture and that shown in the video, it's clear she is, at her core, unprincipled; thus, yes, I agree she's earned consignment to a dark cave somewhere.

I wonder if she considers taking large bribes through an attorney in order to pay hush money to cover up affairs to be grounds for impeachment.

You really should watch the whole video. If you did, did you notice her remarks around the 17 minute mark?

I wonder if she considers taking large bribes through an attorney in order to pay hush money to secret affairs to be grounds for impeachment.

At the time she spoke with Bill, she clearly would have considered that odious in the extreme, as well she or anyone should have and should stil.

If you haven't already, listen to her remarks around 19:50 and just after.

I am amazed that anyone can stand to listen to her for 19 minutes.

And I really should get a colonastopy also ----- but I don't think I will. ;)

btw- I did forward to the 17 minute mark where she talks about lying and honor and it was terrific.

There's no use quibbling about it. Grounds for impeachment are whatever the Legislature say they are.

Well, given those words, it seems she is a hypocrite, because she even wrote a book supporting Trump, "In Trump We Trust", because it's quite evident that Trump might be this or that, but virtuous is not one of them.

Though it's important to point out lack of principles; I feel like this particular woman should be ignored and shunned.

Glad you agree that Trump has done nothing to be impeached for.

Her views have absolutely not changed.

You need to understand.... her view is that if a Democrat is President, it’s OK to say anything to get him impeached or to disparage him.

It’s not about what’s good for the country, it’s about what’s good for Ann Coulter’s book sales.

The left would try to impeach Trump for wearing brown shoes with a blue suit. Short of an actual "high crime or misdemeanor", impeachment should be off the table. Clinton wasn't impeached for the Lewinsky affair. He was impeached for lying under oath. Even then, it was debatable as the failure of the effort demonstrated. If Democrats were to win the House and attempt impeachment, they would throw this country into turmoil and probably wreck the stock market and a lot of other things. Of course, they don't care which is why they must be defeated in November.
