I have to ask, where’s the outrage?

It makes perfect sense to me why people get more outraged when it is elected officials and public servants doing supposedly bad things than when it is private individuals. One group is supposed to work on our behalf, the other doesn’t.

I think one side tends to believe in personal responsibility a little bit more and have a little less faith in a government with no great incentive to do anything other than survive for another paycheck.

The large majority of minors in custody of ICE were separated from their families by their families and sent here by themselves. Why no outrage over that? From all I’ve seen, parents are held completely blameless. What would happen if an American parent sent their child to a foreign country?

Are you saying if we don't like their actions we should vote for new Mexicans?

The reality of the matter is that illegal immigration has been on a decline for the past 9 years and the Obama Administration had 2 years with as low of illegal immigrants as last year under Trump.

Simply speaking, this is nowhere near the kind of a problem that existed under Bush, for example.

I want to talk about the ill effects of separating kids from their parents. Is that not a thing any more?

Only when Trump does it.

lousy public policy does that. why not end our foreign wars to stop creating refugees?

Same thing that happens when foreign parents send kids to America:

and went on to become a world renowned nuclear physicist who invented nuclear hardening for military and mission critical civilian electronics. You're welcome.

So do I. Seriously. I despise the very notion of "sanctuary cities". I grew up in SoCal, saw the enormous changes in our cities and towns due to rampant illegal immigration over decades. Dear god, there were flashing signs on the south-bound 405 fwy "Watch For Pedestrians"... as dozens of shadowed groups dashed across traffic lanes. That all went away when San Diego built a damned wall, so yeah, I'm in favor of a wall.

Like Superfly, I want families to be able to immigrate legally, and frankly don't care how many there are as long as we know who they are and where they are. But this is not what the hoopla is all about, Xy. You seem not to know that. This is about families whose lives depend on getting out of areas where civilians are being murdered in the streets and their children stolen by drug thugs; they are coming to the US for asylum to save their lives and the lives of their children!!

Seeking asylum is not illegal. But...and here's the thing...our government officials are not allowing them legal access to Ports of Entry in order to force them to take a single step on US soil that isn't on that "bridge" or whatever that leads to the port so they can be "legally" arrested, charged for a criminal instead of the normal civil misdemeanor, allowing our government officials to confiscate their children!

That's very wrong, Xy. You're a good man; I believe that you know it's wrong.

Di, you presume that every asylum claim is legit. A large portion of them aren’t and aren’t even claimed until someone actually gets caught because it halts deportation proceedings. I guess I see Border Patrol and ICE agents the same way I do cops. Some are dirty for sure. We had two Border Patrol agents convicted federally for shooting a drug smuggler and sentenced to 10 years (I think, it’s been awhile) because of mandatory minimum sentences having to do with using a firearm, sparking it’s own outrage mostly among people of similar politics to mine. I read the account of what they did, though, and how they tried to hide it and the conviction and sentence was warranted. For the most part though, these guys aren’t bad guys, at all, and aren’t seeking to confiscate children. I don’t think so anyway.

Oh I call people bad names all the time. I am waiting on my 3 points any minute now. (but some things are just worth the hit)

Yes they are and I don’t mean a single instance of flaming, SF, I mean an overall vilification of the other side.

This is every leftists response to the question.

The fact remains...at a high rate of 70,000 a year, children were 'separated from their families' and as many as 25,000 of them at a time spent time in the Obama 'detention camps'...and no one gave the first **** about the camps, or the kids, or the family separation. The ONLY reason this is an issue today is people think they have an argument they can use against Trump. They play the emotional appeal..."what about the chilllldrrreeeeeeennnnnn???" but ignored the chilllldrrreeeeeeennnnnn when it was Fenstein, and Schumer, and both Clintons, and even Obama saying look...we cant allow this...we have to send them back.

Every country on the planet has immigration laws. Because of leftists in this country, the US is the only country that isnt expected to enforce their own immigration laws.

Do not distract from the message that this is all Trump's evil fault.

10USC246 is federal law.

Should we ask the right wing if they are really really serious?

An Army Group in reserve, is what our Founding Fathers wanted to ensure.

You have a link to prove the claim or are we supposed to take your word that it is true?

Okay, let me take a few of these.

First, i'll go with the last question. Those parents would likely be chastised, and rightly so. Despite the caterwaulingT by some about this country, poverty, and the poor, the average standard of living in the US is exceptionally good. We're 7th in terms of national income per capita and 10th on the UN's human development index. There's few places that a parent could send their child to that would objectively give them an opportunity for a better life, and few legitimate reasons for why sending them away would be the better option than staying in place. That same thing can't be said for the locations where many of the unaccompanied minors are coming from. So the context plays a huge role in that being in no way similar.

Second, as to your question why there's no outrage, but first...

Before I get into that, let me just ask...why not asking this in reverse as well, hmm? I remember people suggesting that families were so irresponsible and bad for sending their child away without a parent. I also seem to remember people that are of a similar mind to those who are not outraged at this being outraged over "black families without fathers". I remember them being upset about how horrible it would be for a child to have two daddies because a standard male and female parental unit is always superior. I remember them being upset by the notion of unwed mothers. I remember them often being the type that have been outrage over the government coming in and removing children from the home due to "abuse" that they found to be questionable. Why then is the question not why they are NOT outraged in this instance when a child is made to not have a family unit, but were outraged in those other times.

But now to your actual question. Why there's not as much outrage? Two possible reasons, one of which you'd think a conservative would've immediately got. The first likely reason is that there's a base assumption that a parent sending a child alone to the U.S. is doing so out of desperation, despite the pain it causes them, in hopes of giving their child a better life and that is viewed as far less worthy of condemnation than separating a family, sometimes in extreme fashion, in order to enforce an immigration law to a degree that presidents of both parties did not go to. The second potential reason is that there is more trust and belief in the altruistic nature of a parent and them knowing "whats best" for a child than there is trust in a government entity forcing the situation and bungling it in the process.

The third answer for it all is pretty simple...one of these things (parents of the unaccompanied minors) are a faceless entity that the public has no real tie to or ability to vent their frustration towards. They are an simply a unknown pathwork entity of unseen parents. That is far more difficult to show outrage towards than a government agency or administration who's presence and policies and statements on it are all front and center and clearly identifiable as a means of pointing blame. Outrage is easier when there's a tangible target.

This is really good, Zyph, thank you. One thing though, that hypocrisy check about complaining about 2 daddies or non traditional families is not something I’ve done.

I am not mad or angry at people south of the boarder. They are desperate and trying to flee violence. I don't see them as violent invaders, infesting America... those are Trump's words. I still believe in boarder security and addressing the problem of illegal immigration, but I, in NO way support Trump or his policies. I believe what makes me different from Trump supporters is how I view the people trying to cross the boarder.

Is this another one of those threads in which X Factor passive-aggressively misrepresents (or flat out invents) the prevailing left-wing sentiment regarding a hot-button issue, rooting around for a kernel of “inconsistency” he can then use as a cudgel whenever someone posts something else he doesn’t like?

And there is nothing you won't rationalize to defend him.

Guess which is worse? Admonishing a monster or defending him?

Never mind. A democrat could **** gold bars and you people would find some reason to complain about it.

I see you failed to answer the question. Like I said, it's all about attacking Trump and if sanity has to be suspended, so be it.

In fact, reports from the border this week are that 90% of the minor illegals being held by ICE were:
1. Sent unaccompanied by anybody and/or
2. Were trafficked by people not relatives of the kids.

And more than a few were brought against their will and more than a few were afraid of the adults who brought them.

Where is the outrage about that?

Oh it’s coming as soon as they find a way to blame it on Trump. ;)

It's not about Obama, you ****ing moron. Obama is not separating babies from their parents. He is not putting babies in detention centers. Babies are being put basically in jail, and all you can ****ing say is, "What about Obama?"

Don't exclude the forcing of drugs on the kids.

That's true, but does not matter because the people you listed have a (D) after their name, not an (R). How many remember this?

All forgotten now in order to demonize Tump.

The lying left will ignore anything that diverts attention from their feverish and maniacal attacks on Trump. Facts don't matter a damn bit to them.
