Trump is ending family separation

Yep, who needs a congress when the POTUS (king or queen?) can simply issue EOs (serving as the law of the land) and make 'deals' instead of treaties? One possible issue may be that Trump has changed his mind on many issues in the span of a few tweets but, other than that, it should work fairly well.

True. The system has failed. Congress has abdicated (stalemated), so now the POTUS and SCOTUS will dictate from above.

Stalemate has its advantages over the rocket sled to hell that one party rule gives us, I guess.

I've heard one option is to ignore the detention time limit for minors allowing the family to stay together in detention facilities.

Will be interesting to see the fix

Obama tried that and got sued for it. So basically it is either let them go, keep them and break the law, separate them and all hell breaks loose.

How about that. So I guess all this wasn't the Democrats fault. Trump could have fixed this long time ago.

I'll be expecting Trump and Fox News and all those people who blame the Democrats to apologize now.

Of course I won't be holding my breath. Liars like Trump and Fox News never apologize

No it is congress who makes the law. It is the Presidents job to enforce the law. But it is nice to see that since congress once again cannot do their job Trump has decided to do it for them. It is sad our congress is so pathetic at doing their job that the president has to use his executive power to do their job.

The religious right turning on him and Sessions is what changed his mind. It's too bad they didn't turn on him and all the rest of his phoney Christians around him years ago.

It seems that it worked far better than Zero Tolerance.

No it was more compastionate and humane, but it was not effective at all.

It looks as if the president will have to not follow our laws because the party of resistance and the do nothing party will not do their job. Good thing we have a strong leader who will do their job as well.

Trump kept saying it was a law and only Congress could change it and the Democrats were responsible for it. HE LIED.

No its a law that crossing the border illegally is a misdemeanor and the adults that do it with children have to be separated to prove family relations. Then its the law that the Adults are to be prosecuted. Its also law that the children have to be set free after 20 days due to court order. So families will be separated due to that fact. Unaccompanied minors have their own holding areas, the kids that were taken from their parents are placed with them instead of being placed back into the general adult population for the childs own well being. This is what the big deal is over. But if you cant explain that and why it is so horrible and what should be done about it and who has to do it then why should anyone take your argument serious?

There's not a law to separate kids from their families. That was all on Trump.

And it seems that Zero Tolerance is breaking the system. So...again, it seems better than zero tolerance.

We disagree

So long as the serve for life SCOTUS prevents elimination of POTUS elections (or the SCOTUS itself) by EO it may be a great, fantastic and truly amazing system of government - or not. In any case, Trump will say that he did better than any past has done and order a military parade to celebrate the occasion.

I didn't expect this, the mood in the White House was enthusiastic. The pressure must have been too much, even for bigots.

What just happened is that it just became a whole lot more likely that Congress will fund Trump's wall.

"Trump’s announcement that he would end family separation follows a parade of statements by his adminstration claiming that it was outside their power to do such a thing. ..

The ACLU’s executive director, Anthony Romero, said in a statement Thursday:

“President Trump has been brought to his knees because of the lawsuit we filed on February 26 and the ensuing public outcry. Kids should not have been separated from their parents in the first place and they still don’t belong in jail. His alleged solution to a crisis of his own making is many months too late. It is a crisis that should not have happened to begin with. He has caused irreparable damage to thousands of immigrant families.

Among those putting pressure on the Trump administration to end the family separation policy were major US airlines, American Air and United."

This won't change a thing.

1. It's still against the law to keep children in a detention facility with their parents.

2. Criminal aliens will still be put into detention facilities.

3. Someone will take Trump to court to prevent him from keeping the children in the detention facility.

4. Trump will have to comply with the court and take the children out of the detention facility...while their parents remain.

5. Trump haters will still wail and gnash their teeth in faux outrage over the whole thing.

6. Trump will say, "See...I TRIED to fix this but the courts won't let me. It's up to Congress to fix it."

7. Congress won't fix it.

We'll stay right where we are with everyone using "the children" to "get Trump".

Why do you think that?

Because detaining children isn't a desirable solution, and no one will tolerate that for long, yet catch-and-release was an abject failure. That leaves only one option -- keep 'em out -- and that's what Congress will now feel is the best solution.

I am imagining Melania saying "Honey, this is never going to work for you, when they get to "They are ripping babies from the arms of their mothers!" brains turn off.

What is interesting will be the next few days ... will the left now shut up about illegals entering or will they find another angle to harp about "those poor 'immigrants'".

Now they will complain the children are not being protected as they are being left with people that are not their parents.

Also where are these large groups of people going to be kept?

Trump kept saying it was a law forcing him to do this and the Democrats were responsible for it.

I'm guessing "not", but we'll see. Things aren't getting better...

Isn't His Most Majestic Excellency due to have the bigly biggest military parade ever coming up soon? I seem to remember he demanded one be held in July, but I might be off a bit.

Trump kept saying it was a law and only Congress could change it and the Democrats were responsible for it. HE LIED.

He's right, only Congress can change it, he didn't lie. Now via EO he shall ignore the law and his constitutional duty as has previous administrations. Same ol ****, different day.

Trump says damn near everything eventually.

And yet, despite his constant case of diarrhea of the mouth, his supporters still keep pretending its fine Swiss chocolate dribbling off his lips instead of the offensive waste it actually is.

It looks as if the president will have to not follow our laws because the party of resistance and the do nothing party will not do their job. Good thing we have a strong leader who will do their job as well.

Except the problem is the president doesn't have the power to change the law, nor should he. We are a constitutional republic not a monarchy.
