China: 'The US has launched a trade war'

The world's two biggest economies are now at war over trade.

China accused the United States of firing the first shot on Friday when the White House said that it would impose tariffs of 25% on $50 billion worth of Chinese goods.

The announcement confirms a threat first made by President Donald Trump in March and follows months of trade talks between the two sides. A truce was announced in May, but it proved short-lived.

"The United States has kept changing its mind and now launched a trade war," China's Commerce Ministry said in a statement.

The Chinese government said it would respond in kind to the US tariffs, which will apply to roughly 1,100 exports and will target China's aerospace, robotics, manufacturing and auto industries.

"China does not want a trade war," it said, adding that it would "fight back vigorously" in defense of its national interests, globalization and the world trade system.

Where are the free-traders in this forum? Hell, where have they been the last 2-3 years?

They love unregulated capitalism. Except for when they don't.

I wonder if the Chinese will target products that come from Trumpville like Canada and Europe have.

I would be surprised if they did not. China, hell, the whole world is acutely aware of the details of the political situation in America.

So whats the problem?

I dont know. Is there a rule book?

So you have no idea what you believe in other than what Trump tells you to believe in....

TRUMP Trade Wars, just so ya know where All the credit goes.

So much for the self-proclaimed capitalist espousing free trade and an open market. Mighty quiet. Pretty much negates everything they mouthed-off about before. I'm certainly in favor of capitalism because it's the best way for self-determination nations to democratize. But I'm not in favor of the extent of capitalism we have now that by government policy transfers wealth to large corporations that do nothing to deserve that excess wealth. Free handouts to the rich and large corps. For nothing, nothing, in return. This trade war launched by Trump, calling it a matter of "national security" to bypass otherwise necessary approval by Congress, is just more bullying by this egomaniac, lying fake of a hypocritical president that can only hurt the US and everybody else. A genuine admirer of dictators. What nonsense.

They also said they won't be making all of Trumps campaign paraphernalia anymore

Great. So tell me what I am supposed to think

From the decline of the Roman Empire circa 600 A.D. to about the 1400s, the primary economic operating system of society was feudalism, which was state mandated exchange of goods (mostly peasant produced crops) for civil management and protection (from nobles and knights). Various incremental developments in technology and culture caused a separate crafts and services orientated economy to appear, co-exist with, and occasionally overlap with the larger feudal economy. This was capitalism, and consisted mainly of people trading crafts and services via currency. Eventually, this new economy became sophisticated enough that trading relationships sprouted up across national and eventually continental boundaries. When that happened, the various kings who ruled society began using this capitalist economy as a soft power weapon where the state could nurture and crush trading relationships based on what benefited their core power base of supporters at the expense of freedom and general prosperity.

The Founding Fathers and most colonists from various parts of Europe strongly opposed this practice and cultivated a philosophy known as "classic liberalism" that asserted the importance of free trade as a way for the common man to attain (through effort) living standards gentlemen and lesser nobles were born with, and several of America's first wars were driven partly by this cultural and philosophical determination to foster free trade when England attempted to underwrite American trade policy in their favor by attacking American ships that did trade with other European powers (this spurred the War of 1812).

When the living liberal movement evolved into the modern liberalism that exists today, dissenters who continued to tow the classical liberalism line became known as libertarians.

Why? Because you cant answer a direct question?

Protectionism is in direct opposition to libertarian thought, whether that be right-libertarian or left-libertarian. You should already know this...
