He must have know this law suit was coming from the state of New York and wanted to misdirect his followers to the Clinton foundation. And the attorney general of New York is sending info to the DOJ which shows which Federal Laws the foundation violated. Want to be that won't go anywhere if Trump and Sessions care able to squash it. And instead they will keep pushing investigations into Clinton and Obama to feed the raw meat to their followers. Go after that woman who dared run against me and Obama because he was a better president than I ever will be. All of Trump's white supremacy followers and women haters will jump on the band wagon.

Something I noticed:

The Trump Foundation's address was the same as Donald Trump's personal address. I wonder whether the Foundation was the actual owner of Trump's residence (perhaps the whole building that isn't owned by tenants) and thereby creates some measure of/means to avoid paying property and/or other taxes. I haven't looked at the Foundation's 990, so I don't know.

Be that as it may, insofar as NY has documentary evidence for its claims, this is going to be interesting to see play out. Right now, it's overshadowed by the DoJ IG's report; however, that will pass. The thing is that voters likely won't read the charging document and other testimony made under oath and/or in court, so it's hard to know how the matter will play politically. And, frankly, I think average people haven't a clue about the nature and extent of fiduciary duty and independence as it pertains to organizations.

The former AG had this case for two years and certainly did not criminally charge Trump with any law violation or civil suite. For a new (D) AG to then claim crime but not charge one, and instead seek civil damages, certainly suggests witch hunt.

Because of Trump's talk about pardoning himself on a federal matter. He boasts about his absolute power. He has already used the pardon inexcusably. So every time a state level action is taken against his corrupt machine that is a chance for justice that he can't block. It frustrates the wanna-be king and it makes me happy.

The Clinton Foundation should have been investigated long ago. Actually, I thought they were already being investigated. It was a very obvious pay for play scheme to buy political influence. When Hillary lost, the Clinton Foundation well dried up. All kinds of shady characters from all kinds of shady countries donated and then, all of a sudden, didn't want to donate anymore as soon as Hillary lost.
