What pledges has he made and when?
He has only been in power since 2012

He = NK in that instance. NK has promised similar things something like eight times, with other promises to boot. There is no reason to think Kim is different. There was at first given his partial western education, but not based on what we know now.
Where's the distinction? Are we doing the much-mocked hope & change thing with them? Like his forebears, he rules with an iron fist over misery. Obama was dishonestly mocked for even suggesting talking to them, so too was anyone that didn't agree with that dishonest mockery. Now I'm supposed to turn on a dime and hope Kim found the good side of the force?
Man, I want this to be real. But all signs are to the contrary. The best pro-Trump position would be heavily guarded vague optimism. Instead I'm seeing
you give him a chance you poopyface lefty. Yeah, ok. Why should Trump get a chance? As a business man, he bankrupted everything he touched but got rich anyway - a conman. Everything he's done internationally thus far has been pissing on our allies, ripping up agreements, and sucking up to authoritarians. (Duterte, Putin, Kim, Xi, etc).
He's also the biggest liar. Various papers have run Trump quotes contrasted with links to recorded information contradicting him. He's up past 3,000 or so, last I checked....which was months ago. (Let me guess: "all politicians lie (so ignore the exponential difference)". mmm?).
And I'm supposed to forget the last 10 years of raging bull****, I'm supposed to forget Trump's prolonged campaign of rage/mockery, and I'm supposed to give him a chance even though this agreement means something?
Isn't it painfully obvious now that the only reason Kim built up nukes was so that we would negotiate them down again, instead of starting at a non-nuke NK and negotiating them lower? We were never going to use military force (and I agree with not using it given the fact that they actually aren't a security risk). He knew it, we knew it, Trump knows it. So now Kim gets to make vague promises without consequences for failure, to happen years in the future - how many is up for debate - in exchange for getting rid of the nukes he continued building to force this situation.
And we get....what?
Ah but what do we get?
Trump is using this as pro-Trump proganda (duh), and so too is Kim. Kim's regime is releasing commercials showing Trump respecting NK, saluting generals, etc. All that just feeds into one arm of his grip on the miserable North Koreans. Meanwhile Trump gets undeserved praise from people who don't have the slightest clue what any of the kerfluffle has been about other than the lone fact we fought NK in the 50s.
To butcher a quote, this is a farce within a satire within slapstick; a tale told by an idiot.
What pledges he made and when.... what a contemptible deflection.
