There was every reason to believe they’d vote against it. Conservative Senators had previously brought forward similar legislation and it was defeated last month...

It’s hard to understate just what a reversal this represents. Trudeau campaigned on restoring diplomatic relations with Iran and this motion calls for the government to “abandon its current plan and immediately cease any and all negotiations or discussion with the Islamic Republic of Iran to restore diplomatic relations.”

So what Trudeau did by standing up in support of an opposition MP’s mere motion was to signal a complete change in the Canadian government’s Iran policy. What had previously been characterized as a policy of appeasement now appears to be one rooted in toughness and holding the regime to account for their conduct.

You do realize Trudeau is prime minister not a president, right?

You do realize Trudeau is prime minister not a president, right?

Which means virtually nothing in the scope of this issue.

The point is that Trudeau and the majority of the cabinet all voted to get tougher on Iran. That's a complete about-face. That's what makes it interesting.

One could make the point that this is a good thing.

However after all the crap he and his cronies have done to Canada. There is no doubt plenty of healing that is needed still.

You do realize Trudeau is prime minister not a president, right?

So, who is it that has authority over foreign affairs in Canada?

The official, who spoke to the National Post on the condition of anonymity, said the shift in tone has to do with the current detention of Canadian-Iranian citizen Maryam Mombeini, who in March was prevented from leaving the country with her two adult children after her husband’s suspicious death in prison.

Which would make sense. In likelihood negotiations failed. There is a reason for the about face and it has nothing to do with Trump.

Trudeau is also quite handsome.

That’s not a leadership quality. Canadians should have learned that from our experiences with Obama.

It has EVERYTHING to do with Trump.

If Trump didn’t scrap Obama’s pile of feces, Canada would:

1. ...never have had a vote on this.

2. ...never have reversed course.

I guess someone explained to Trudeau the Obama “deal” was akin to a hunk of moose feces... and backing Iran would be moronic.

Hence the reversal.

It’s a political form of “trickle down.” :)

Does that mean he stabbed Merkel and Macron in the back?

I think, after all the excited, reactionary gum flapping that occurred after Trump nixed the Obama “deal”, sobriety set in after the passing of time.

Someone must have sat the Bollyweird star down, and told him the cold, hard facts.

You going to prove that or continue with your hyperbole? I provided evidence for mine, you have not.

Bring me an unbiased news article, not an opinion piece, to evaluate.

You mean Obama who won two landslide elections; who had a 63% approval rating? That Obama?
Obama has remained popular with the majority of Americans throughout the majority of his tenure, though his favorability rating has seen a particularly significant spike over the past year. Over the course of his presidency, Obama garnered a 53% favorable rating, according to an average of Gallup polls, but it sat in the low- to mid-40s until early 2016.

Obama's high favorability rating starkly contrasts that of incoming President Donald Trump.
