Now, can something further come of this? Sure? But I suspect nothing more than PR was accomplished tonight.

I think we will know if they are serious about compromising, when the press asks follow-up questions. Eventually Trump is going to have to get specific.

If all he comes back with is a "We'll see what happens." It's a failure, IMO. The Trump base will lie and distort this, but, if all we have is a, "We'll see." Failure, imo.

If he says, "Yes, they're going to denuclearize and in return the U.S.A. is closing X amount of bases." AND Kim's story lines up with Trump's you may have something tangible.

People keep saying that all Kim wanted was the photos for propaganda, but what they don't understand is that Trump wanted the same thing.

It's actually pretty simple to understand what North Korea is willing to accept.

They want to have the threat of force to deter the US government from ever attempting to topple them. They will never allow themselves to be at the mercy of the US government, as they've seen how that goes for unarmed nations.

Even if they believe Trump (which they don't) they understand that policy can change from one administrations to the next, which means they'll want something that can transcend the changes of democracy. Trumps security assurances are not going to be enough.

That means they will want to have either their own nuclear weapons, or to be provided a nuclear umbrella from another nation. China could become the player to officially provide them with such security, and it could one day result in the North dismantling their program, since they would no longer need it.

Well, by starting these talks Trump has by extension committed to a new no-aggression policy towards NK. How can Trump militarily attack NK in any fashion, if NK is actively involved in peace talks? We won't have any allies' support, nor will China allow any aggression under that scenario.
