Trump’s Presidency Is Built Upon Double Standards

Donald Trump and his always enabling press secretary Sarah Sanders charged there was a "double standard" when a television network apologized for a racist comment made about a top aide to Barack Obama but didn't apologize to the current president for its critical remarks about him. This was sheer narcissism. There was no cause for an apology to Trump. But a double standard does exist in the political dialogue and media coverage. Sometimes it works against Trump. But more often, it works to his advantage. Let's look at how this works. Hypothetically, after the 2012 attack in Benghazi where the U.S. ambassador and three other Americans were killed, suppose that Obama, amid conflicting reports on what happened, called the ambassador's family and said, "This is what he signed up for." That's what Trump did last year when four American special-forces soldiers were killed in Niger by terrorists. He initially denied making the comment, which then was confirmed by one soldier's widow and by a congresswoman who was on the call. Trump also falsely charged that Obama never contacted families of slain veterans.

Critics used to call Clinton "slick Willie." Imagine the reaction if he had accused the New York Times of fabricating a story about a fictional White House. That's what Trump did last week, though, as he surely knew, the story was based on a briefing for hundreds of reporters by White House aide Matthew Pottinger. Or suppose Obama had gone to the U.S. Naval Academy and claimed he had given the military its first pay raise in 10 years. That was Trump's boast at Annapolis last week, although the military has gotten pay raises every year since 1983. The president also lied about his proposed naval buildup, as documented by Associated Press fact-checkers. It doesn’t matter if Trump’s lying is pathological or if it’s all calculated. The thousands of untruths and misdeeds -- the abuse of power and possible illegalities -- would not have been countenanced before. That's a double standard.

Inconvenient truths? Just lie. Or holler fake news. Or toss out whataboutisms. Or utilize that new universal scapegoat, the Deep State.

10 Years - All Your Lies

It doesn't even make sense for him to say such things since even just thinking he deserves an apology goes against his very philosophy of "no apologies". If he's not willing to apologize to anyone for what he says, why should anyone have to apologize to him for what they say?

Another “one way” street, like loyalty and decency and......

If it wasn't for double standards, liberals would have no standards.

Other than your obvious inability to debate the OP with facts and resources your childish post ^^^ relates to Trump and the OP how?

Let me ask you, did Rosanne's apology really change anything? It just made her look weak.

It would have been better if she hadn't have blamed Ambien for the rant. But in general, at least she tried.

And again, then why should those who have said anything bad about the President have to apologize to him if that is what it does? No one told Roseanne that she would be fine if she simply apologized. An apology does not exempt a person from consequences. But insisting on an apology for insults when you yourself do not think anyone deserves an apology from you is hypocritical and petty. Many view our President as weak due to his enormous ego and how it makes him look highly insecure that he needs to either stroke it or have it stroke almost constantly.

Roseanne isn't the president. Try another whataboutism.

It seemed sincere to me and sincere apologies never make someone look weak to me. But the key is whether or not it seems sincere.

No, that's incorrect. Her clear racial insensitivity made her look weak.

It isn't surprising that you don't know that.

That made me laugh, as IMO it is an aptly applied truism (at least in regards to Progressive-Liberals).

Thanks for this.

"Lay down with dogs, get up with fleas."

The double standard has been in place since trump became a candidate. Literally everybody else is held to a standard of perfection, whereas trump is to be praised if he doesn't take off his shoe and attempt to eat it.

Emphasis mine. Notice the writer cunningly says that Trump “initially denied” this?

Trump denied it initially, and still denies it. He didn’t say, "This is what he signed up for." The woman took what he did say and misquoted him, and placed his message out of context. This commonly happens when an enemy sums up your words.

Trump tweeted, “Democrat Congresswoman totally fabricated what I said to the wife of a soldier who died in action (and I have proof). Sad!”

There is only one standard Democrats and their Fake News have, and that's No Standards.

It was a funny line. You had to admit. Where is your sense of humor?

I don’t care. Get back to us when his lies force negative changes on one sixth of the economy.
