Yeah, Roseanne Barr was in bad taste, but Disney is worse.

I love how people who've spent half a century tearing down the culture suddenly complain when people are uncultured.

A media that taught us to mock authority and culture was unprepared for the day when the audience would mock their authority and their culture.
A media that uses senseless violence to entertain is shocked when people employ senseless violence.

When Disney starts comparing black people to apes, let me know.

Conservatives are infinitely butt hurt because they genuinely believed that with the election of trump, racists could act out as they pleased without consequence. They thought this was their country now.

They are Wrong, but too brain dead to know it, thinking there might be a wake up call come November.

To be fair Disney has a long history of using animal depictions unfavorably as minority representations and sometimes not so subtle sexual references or drawings in their cartoons.

Definitely seems to be some who thinks this and are finding out they are wrong. At least we see people putting themselves, so that is a silver lining.

The Kookers know they are hypocrites. Doesn't matter because "the ends justify the means."

Maybe we can kick 1200 more of them out of office. Perhaps put a few in jail? Wouldn't that be nice?

I take issue with the word "conservatives". Replace with the word "racists" and I'm with you, but I know too many conservatives who are absolutely not racist

Really, you're gonna bring up a movie Disney created in 19 ****ing 46?

How desperate can you be.

Huh, as with Confederate soldiers who are now equated with Nazis, I thought historical context wasn't supposed to make a bit of difference when judging someone/something

Can you please show me where I’ve ever said anything of the sort?

1936, 1926, 1916, 1906, 1896, 1886 - - - - - - >>>>1626...he said, "it doesn't matter".
Let's remember this moment so that it we can use it.

Conservatives, Republicans, Trump supporters...the overwhelming majority of the right wing has coalesced behind Trump. When 85-89% of Republicans approve of him, worrying about broad-brushing or the appropriate labels seems awfully tangential to me.

And let's not split hairs. The Trump movement is quite specifically based on an anti-immigrant, anti-foreigner platform. And that movement has not lost any sleep over whether any of those immigrants are white.

So you link us a site that links to an article... :doh

Your author states, "Of course her tweet is repulsive. So what?"

Umm, who states that something was repulsive and then follows it with "So what?"

She did not just say something people didn't like, she said something that was blatantly racist and disgusting.

This thread should be retitled "Whataboutism Whataboutism Whataboutism"

When we continue to ignore unacceptable behaviors by engaging in whataboutisms then no one wins.

After reading the article... and losing a few brain cells in the process... where exactly does Kimball support the argument that Disney is worse (not a Disney fan, btw)? This is a horribly written (and poorly edited) article.

Absolutely. And there have been countless analyses and discussions by sociologists of those depictions. However, a hidden erect penis drawn up by a disgruntled cartoonist should not be an indictment of an entire company (and once again, I am not Disney fan).

You should watch Song of the South.

Created in 1946. Got other apples and oranges comparisons?

Is every conservative's kneejerk reaction to a controversy surrounding one of their own to use whataboutisms?

OK, so fire the liberals first.

Starting with this guy...

...who still has a job with Disney.

In what way am I "desperate"?

Do you think I give a **** about Roseanne or her TV show?

Let me clue you in: I don't.

If you weren't so hair-trigger reactionary and needing to take absolutely everything as hostile, you'd probably figure out that my comment was merely conversational and in passing, a simple factoid of interest to a comment in the thread.

But no, you're all histrionic all the time.

Ease down. Not everything is a partisan fight. Try to find a way to see past that once in a while.
