Ex San Francisco Mayor Says Dems Should Quit Bashing Trump

The mayor was giving his flock advice for winning elections. If Trump bashing is more fun then you can go down the same road that Hillary went down.

Since I know for certain you wouldn't be giving us advise that would help us win, I'm going to continue he to do what you advise against.

Hillary's strategic mistake was not in bashing Trump (negative campaigning can be quite effective) - her mistake was in bashing those that favored Trump. BTW, Hillary won heavily in CA.

You could have just called him an uncle tom.

Lol...how tolerant of you. So tolerant that now just saying to stop the non-stop bashing (i.e. not supporting or even speaking positively of) makes you an Uncle Tom.

I wonder if we are only seeing the beginnings of and ideological breaking of the monolithic Democrat support that exists there.

I'm sorry, am I still in America?

As I recall, the right-wing bashed the hell out of Obama all throughout his presidency, regardless of whether the public approved of his decisions or not, and they ended up winning the midterms.

Seems the right is gravely concerned that with Trump poor to mixed public approval and the House map being favorable to Democrats, history might repeat the other way around.
Shiiiattttt! If you think Obama suffered anywhere near the level of hate Trump has endured you're living in la-la land. Do you remember any "comedians" posing with a severed Obama head? Did the late night talk shows feed us a constant stream of hateful rhetoric disguised as "comedy"? Saturday Night Live as done more skits mocking Trump to this point than the did for Obama during his entire term.

By the way, there's no such thing as the "House Map" The entire house is voted on every election.

I was like WTF and then I saw it's fox. Lol

Since I know for certain you wouldn't be giving us advise that would help us win, I'm going to continue he to do what you advise against.

LOL. Go right ahead. You know, whether you believe it or not, I'm an independent who in every election votes a mix of Republicans, Democrats, and Independents. I voted for Obama in 2012 and I didn't vote for Trump in 2016. I'd like to see moderation on both sides and I'm not against voting in a Democratic president again as long as they are not a liberal or a socialist. Besides, it's not me this thread is about, it is about the advice of a liberal ex-San Francisco mayor. Hell, even Nancy Pelosi is calling out loony Democrats who want to impeach Trump and telling them not to follow the anti-Trump path. So, you don't have to listen to me.

I'm getting inklings that there are many in California who are growing tired of extreme liberalism. If I were Trump, I would go after votes there in 2020. Still doubt he could win the state though. But, if Trump can bring on the perception that California is getting redder than it was, it could influence voting in other states.

I don't think anybody was convinced vote for republicans in the midterms because of Barack Obama's birth certificate or his middle name. I think it was his policies.

yes it is cyclical but I don't think these petty little games have much effect.

I agree but I don't think this Petty nonsense really converts anyone. Maybe it'll make Democrats get up and vote for someone they wouldn't otherwise vote for but even then the Red Dog Democrats are locked in kind of like the Republicans the people we have to convince are the ones in the middle. Were you convince the voting base of the other party to stay home.

Love him or hate him Donald Trump is a polarizing character and there are people that I absolutely love maybe not his policies but his Swagger his proverbial giving the middle finger to the people who have for so long managed to keep Republican candidates and officials Within certain confines.

I often equate Donald Trump to a lit stick of dynamite in for some people that's exactly what our country needs and to others it's the worst thing possible it all depends on perspective.

Freaking out because the stick of dynamite is going to blow up things that the people that voted for him don't like anyway is it's going to convert them it isn't going to convince them to stay home that's going to get it it's them to make damn sure that stick of dynamite goes off.

And when it blows their future to shreds they'll somehow blame liberals for it.

I joked with my wife I was going to vote for trump from an anarchist perspective.

Because he will certainly **** it all up. Hopefully so bad we have to start all over from scratch.

I didn't because I don't want the karma.

Because karma is a bitch.

Or if it makes for a better future the left will do everything to take credit.

I think that people have already made-up their minds on who they're going to vote for, its just a matter of playing out the primaries.

There are people that love Trump despite his insane character flaws because he rubber stamps their ideological agenda, while there are an equal amount of people that despise the man and everything he stands for.

The polls will go up and down several times, but come November they'll settle into what they were going to do anyways.

I just don't think there is going to be the sweeping democrat windfall in this upcoming election. I don't think as of right now its hard to think Trump will get re-elected. 2022 democrats may have been able to just get the majority but who knows.

We're following the pattern of history.

Those who are addicted to money and power get into a feedback loop and its all downhill from there.

Every revolution ever is the result of this pattern.

Every grinding hell regular people have to live through as well.

As long as we continue to forget this lesson we are doomed to repeat it.

I'm not Listening to either side.

Its just opposing teams of rich people jockeying for advantage at the expense of the majority.

LOL. Good luck with that. Even Bernie Sanders was a rich old white man.

Yeah I think that's a lesson the democrat party hasn't learned, they did run Clinton.

Every revolution ever is the result of this pattern.
Good thing we got those democrats out stave it off at least a little while.

Every grinding hell regular people have to live through as well.

That's why peopled voted for Trump.

Again its all perspective.

I seriously doubt Trump will even run. I won't get into all the reasons why, but I just don't see it.

My hunch is the Democrats will take a slight majority in the House and the GOP will add one or two seats in the Senate.

well I think you're engaging in wishful thinking. The Democrats lost in 2016 because they didn't care about Middle America these areas largely didn't see any of the Obama era stimulus and what the Democrats are doing now is largely ignoring Middle America. Some are downright resenting it to the point where they think they should do away with what gives these states power.

I don't see a Democrat taking power in 2020. They have to get over there fit throwing they have to learn that they indeed made a mistake in 2016 and they have to rectify it I don't see that happening in 2 years.

I'm think Donald Trump will run for a second term.

With respect, I think you're engaging in some wishful thinking yourself there.

There are as many people opposed to Trump as there in support of him (probably more, looking at the stats) and those people are very pissed off and energized. Forget the polls, look at the special elections where Democrats have voter turn out similar to that of 2006.

Whether that trend continues can't be assumed, but I'd much rather be a Democrat than a Republican right now.

I think you have made my point. Hubris was the mistake democrats made and they haven't done anything to change that.

They are resting on hatred of Trump to win them the election. It didn't work in 2016 and i think it has less of a chance of working in 2020.

2016 Trump was running against Hillary, after 8 years of a Democrat presidency (which benefits the minority party), and he himself had no record to run on.

in 2020, if he's still president and runs again, he'll have 4 years under his belt, no Hillary to run against, and a very divided nation, with more than half of the nation not approval of him.

Good luck.

So the conditions will be pretty similar to those that existed when he was elected except he will have a 4 year track record of improvements.

You should wish Trump luck though I dont think he needs much.
