So somehow even with the Democrats were the right-leaning party supporting segregation, so literally dividing people into groups based on race, it was the liberals and the left to blame?

If you were Black in 1964, who would you vote for Barry Goldwater, the Republican who said he was against the Civil Rights Act or Lyndon B. Johnson, the Democrat who was for it?

Not only that, all the states that voted for segregationist George Wallace are now Republican states.

They used to be solid Democrat states. Then George Wallace broke from the Democrat party and ran as an independent and those states supported George Wallace. Now those same pro-segregation states that broke away from the Democratic party are Republican states.

Progressives in the North supported slavery, and they upheld that with ideas of racial science and eugenics that they espoused right up until the 1940's. The most constant thing among abolitionists was religion and the idea that all people are equal and all life sacred in God's eyes.

The only thing more hilarious about the OP subject matter is that its author - who is obviously a devout Trump supporter- is complaining about diviciveness with Trump being the posterboy for same.
