Was listening to WCBS radio here in NY this morning when they stated that, "The USA cannot just boot out this "caravan" of people until they determine if they are in fact fleeing repression in their home nation"

Since when does international law supersede our nations laws? I call BS on this as media trying to sway public opinion.

I'm not sure which people you're referring to nor am I an expert on our asylum laws, but there are some immigration laws and treaties to which we are a part out there defining refugees and obliging us to recognize them such as https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convention_Relating_to_the_Status_of_Refugees

Do you believe that nations shouldn't be held to the things they agree to?

International law never supersedes the "laws" or actions of rogue nations. That's why the Nazis did what they did. That's why there were War Criminal trials at Nuremberg. That's why the US should be held to the same standards that the US established at Nuremberg, for their myriad illegal invasions of sovereign nations and acts of terrorism.

The "poisoned chalice" described by USSC justice Robert Jackson, which was being handed to the Nazi war criminals must be, in the words of Justice Jackson, also be handed to the USA and any other criminals of any nation which commit these ultimate of war crimes.

International law does govern the actions of lawful, rule of law nations. The US has never respected either international law or the rule of law. Ergo, rogue nation.

Our country has signed on to certain international agreements. This may be part of those agreements.

Lol what a joke. Your total inability to condemn communist nations for repeatedly and viciously invading their neighbors—-as in Vietnam, when the Vietnamese communists invaded Laos and Cambodia—shows your hysterical rhetoric to be just that—hysterical anti Americanism.

They didn't say treaties they said law.

We as a nation have never sided with the law unless it was on our side.

Justice Jackson didn't joke.

After the first World War, we learned the futility of the latter course. The former high station of these defendants, the notoriety of their acts, and the adaptability of their conduct to provoke retaliation make it hard to distinguish between the demand for a just and measured retribution, and the unthinking cry for vengeance which arises from the anguish of war. It is our task, so far as humanly possible, to, draw the line between the two. We must never forget that the record on which we judge these defendants today is the record on which history will judge us tomorrow. To pass these defendants a poisoned chalice is to put it to our own lips as well. We must summon such detachment and intellectual integrity to our task that this Trial will commend itself to posterity as fulfilling humanity's aspirations to do justice.

Treaties are laws. I thought that USians were knowledgeable about the constitution.

Well you see, we get into that grey area, we also (these days) have "Agreements" as in NAFTA, the north American free trade agreement. They often refer to is sideways as a treaty, I on the other hand don't recognize it as a law/treaty at all.

If an international law places restrictions on me/my country that are more restrictive then my own laws I don't recognize them. The US govt. cannot restrict me by circumventing our constitution.

As I mentioned, I thought that USians actually knew something about their konsteetwoshun.

If the USA gave a rat's ass about International Law we would not have invaded Syria, Iraq, Libya, etc. It's a MSM excuse of convenience tool. Like referring to terrorists as moderate rebels.

Sorry bud, I know it offends you that the world has rejected your ideology in favor of American and Western style democracy.

There seem to be a whole lot more USians who don't know much about their konsteetwoshun.

A good example of an international agreement we have signed on to is the Geneva Convention, which dictates how wars are fought.

That would be the same Geneva Conventions that state torture is illegal? Another agreement of convenience. The powers tell the MSM to generate Media that insinuates torure is harmless and works. It fails to inform that the leaders responsible for the torture have been prosecuted as "War Criminals" in the recent past. That MSM doesn't seem to be working at the people level./

To Lefty Louie: Right on.

International law is not law but politics, ... there is no such law, and the pretense that it exists is a harmful fantasy. Robert Bork

International law is United Nations law. Ergo, the United Nations is an ORGANIZATION; so somebody should ask the lady with the bullhorn where an organization gets the authority to dictate immigration policy to the U.S. or to any sovereign nation?
