Empty threats or not?
Empty threats or not?
Question is, will Iran [and others] think of it as a threat or just the usual bluster of past administration. Turns out France wants a new deal with Iran.
Based on other issues Trump has made threats about, I don't think this one is empty.
Examples: Trade, NK, chemical weapons...that's just off the top of my head.
So Trump is a nation building neocon now?
You mean France does not want Trump to back out of the Iran deal and is dangling a carrot for him. He just might take it too.
???
Did I say something about nation building?
How soon we forget the "Pottery Barn" rule....
LOL The only problem is that Iran will not negotiate a new deal. But if we stay in the one we have they might change their mind. That is what Macron is telling Trump anyway...
There inlies the threat.

Breaking things isn't Trump's style, though he'll do it if he has to.
I don't see him paying Syria for breaking things because of chemical weapon use, though.
LOL The only problem is that Iran will not negotiate a new deal. But if we stay in the one we have they might change their mind. That is what Macron is telling Trump anyway... We can only hope he outsmarted Trump with this. Backing out now will send the wrong message to Kim.
So he did not just threaten to "break" Iran?
“It won’t be so easy for them [Iran] to restart it. They’re not going to be restarting anything," Trump said. "If they restart it, they’re going to have big problems, bigger than they ever had before. And you can mark it down. If they restart their nuclear program they will have bigger problems than they ever had before.”
and why would iran trust any deal if we go back on our word?
So you think Trump will stay in? If we don't Iran will have a bomb by Christmas and it will be Trump's doing.
Kim is irrelevant when it comes to Iran.
If Iran won't renegotiate, the deal ends. We go back to "crippling sanctions", as they say.
If Iran restarts their nuke program, then Trump executes on his "threats".
Iran hasn't changed it's behavior in the region and knows this deal was a hoax. All they wanted was to get out of the sanction and be free to do business with whoever...including terrorists. They don''t have a lot of excuses for why we should keep the current deal.
This was from a year of it's signing.

The rest of the world will not go back to the sanctions, they want to keep the agreement. We cannot "cripple" Iran on our own. If we renege on our word Iran has no reason to keep theirs and Kim has no reason to make a deal we won't keep either.
Kim is irrelevant. What Kim thinks doesn't matter. He'll do whatever China tells him to do.
As far as sanctions against Iran and other countries, all Trump has to do is lay out the new agreement, and then apply sanctions to anyone who does business with Iran. Those other countries will join him in a heartbeat.
LOL Trump cannot "lay out" anything. Iran does not want a renegotiation and will not be a party to one. We cannot snub our allies with sanctions either.
1. Trump can certainly lay out a plan. Iran has the choice to accept it, negotiate or tell Trump to pound sand.
2. Trump can put the rest of the world in a position to make a choice. He's done it before...concerning NK.
You should be careful with telling Trump what he "can't" do.
