I was in the military between 1969 and 1972 and although I was at first scheduled to go to Viet Nam, I eventually never went. I am what is called a Viet Nam "era" verteran, which is different from a Viet Nam Veteran. When people ask I always, and I mean always explain the difference, to do otherwise is to lesson the acts of bravery of those who had to go over there. Now we have Pompeo whose Wikipedia page suggests he served in the Gulf War. This, his serving in the Gulf War, has been used by several of his supporters in Congress as part of the reason to give him their support. My question is if this isn't true that he served in the Gulf War, why does he not explain that not only Congress, but to the American people and especially those who served in that war?

And this is the one of the things that is so disturbing about our politics now, our values, our willingness to simply ignore anything that even resembles a moral compass.

Why is Pompeo's military service record in dispute? It should just be sitting there in the record. From what I can see, the record shows he was a Captain in the 7th Cavalry but where he served is in dispute. That bothers me. I don't know of many ex-troopers for whom their service records are in dispute. Why is it so often that when we stubble across one he is so often somehow involved in politics? Another record on Pompeo has his same rank and outfit and further states that he served in Germany.

Why is this still sitting out there unresolved? Is it unresolved because his supporters have not found the right way to simply mess with the record and make it match what they want it to match? Why are we not outraged?

Why is virtually everything about everybody associated with this administration utterly creepy? This is creepy. So far, whether I like her or not, Niki Haley appears to literally be the only person in this administration for which a shady past does not exist or a shady present does not exist. The rest of them are simply perfect matches for Donald, the universally, cosmically corrupt man, a man for whom it visibly hurts to twist his mouth to shape the words to tell the truth about anything.

Pompeo enrolled at the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, graduating first in his class with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1986. He followed with five years of active duty in the U.S. Army, serving as a cavalry officer in East Germany and rising to the rank of captain.

He served in East Germany? On our side? But certainly not in the Gulf War. Who made that bull s.... up?
