Musk Blames Robots For Tesla Production Crisis

Elon Musk said, indicating that robots are not all they have cracked up to be, and human contributions have been undervalued.

Asked by CBS host King whether robots actually slowed production, Musk said:

“Yes, they did….We had this crazy, complex network of conveyor belts….And it was not working, so we got rid of that whole thing.”

They can only be as good as designed.

Setting up assembly lines, from what I gather would have been the best way to start, ramping up production is easier, then into robots as time and capabilities are determined.

If you own stock you should sell, regardless of the price. It is going to be almost impossible for this company to survive, the best hope now is that they get bought at a step discount to the current market cap. There is WAY too much competition from companies that basically know what they are doing.

Unsafe work conditions and employee injuries might also have something to do with the work slow down.

Apparently, Musk doesn't like the color yellow and won't allow the color anywhere on the factory floor...not even for caution and danger warning signs.

Orange can be used as a safety/warning colour

One of the few things I agree with you on.

Tesla as a auto manufacturer has very little chance of being an independent company in 5 years. I doubt without a serious cash injection it will be around in 18 months

"Blames robots"? What?

They designed a bad manufacturing system, then fixed it once it was obviously bad. He didn't say that robots caused it to be bad of their own volition. "Blames robots" is incoherent.

If as many of these delivered Model 3's are defective as some people suspect any new capitalization will be extremely expensive.....that looks like the next shoe to drop, and if it does it might well be "Game Over".

Apparently, he only allows the colors red and grey.

Sources told Reveal that safety compromises were made at Tesla's Fremont factory to appease CEO Elon Musk's aesthetic preferences. The factory floor did not have clearly marked pedestrian lanes, and instead had lanes painted different shades of gray.

Ya, and then there is this:

To be sure, Musk has used the “too much technology” excuse before. In 2016, he owned up to the problems with production of the Model X, telling an audience of Tesla shareholders, “This [Model X] program has been challenging. I particularly need to fault myself for a fair bit of hubris for putting too much technology all at once into a product.” The Model 3, he said, would not have as much technology as the Model S and X.

I manage integrating robots into production applications. I can attest to this. Most people who buy their first robotic systems are exactly like Musk. They are flabbergasted by the fact that the robot does not do what the salesmen promised them it would do.

Totally common.

I wonder if the robots union is going to have something to say about this.

I smell a strike coming.
