The BIGGEST facade in DC is telling folks that you are leaving to "spend more time with your family". Those who utter this chuckle are either afraid of losing an election, or are trying to avoid some other embarrassing situation. Rest assured that Ryan is no different. Granted, he never wanted the speaker's job to begin with, but be sure that he has "bigger" plans that do NOT involve QUALITY time with kids. More likely it will be "quality" time with the Koch Brothers.

That said, I can readily think of no other current member of Congress who has managed to conceal his true identity and ideology better than Paul Ryan. He has "sold" himself as a policy Wonk and fiscal Conservative when nothing could be farther than the truth. Let's examine a few key points:

* Prior to becoming Speaker, Ryan managed to pass a whopping THREE bills during his 15 year pre-Speaker Congressional tenure. The most substantive of which was getting a post office re-named.

* Ryan has NEVER been "working class" and has never represented "working class" people.

* Ryan entered Congress as a MILLIONAIRE and has seen his fortune increase substantially ever since.

* Ryan has always been about tax cuts for the wealthy (himself included) and rolling back social programs for the poor (while drawing social security himself upon his fathers death).

If nothing else, Ryan certainly deserves an award for being able to "conceal" his true identity. My guess is that due to his retirement, more and more will become public about the REAL Paul Ryan.

The bottom line is that he doesn't need the money or the hassle of that very time consuming job (for basically half pay - considering his earned retirement benefits). I see no problem with his decision that spending more swamp time is not worth the bother.
