My telling Jim Jones to shut up wouldn't change anything, and it would make my daughter want to follow him even more. Why don't you go out and have some kids and then get back to me? How about this scenario? My daughter follows Jim Jones here in the US. I tell him to shut up and punch him in the face and order my daughter to never go near him again. He has been planning this trip to Jonestown. My daughter wasn't going to go because of the cost and because of friends she has in the area but after I told Jim Jones to shut up, punched him the face and ordered my daughter never to go near him again, Jim Jones communicates with her and tells her that he will fund her trip and now that she is royally pissed off at me for being such a dickhead asshole, she decides to go.

You don't do it where she can see.

He isn't going to tell her you touched him up. Ego.

Do it right and he'll cut her loose to keep you from coming back and finishing what you started.

Which will make her angry at HIM.

And if you put an end to him carefully, nobody will go to jonestown at all. Those movements always revolve around a personality. Without it they come apart.

First, if the counter protesters would have never showed up, this small protest would have been peaceful, it would have been over with, and it would never have even made news, and no one would have paid any attention to a small group of nutcases. That's my main point.

Second, it was the white nationalists who needed and asked for protection from the police from the counter protesters, not the other way around. Why do you think that was?

Here we go again... another Hitler/Nazi Germany comparison. Godwin's Law strikes again.

I'm going to say just this... Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany are all alone on rancid hilltop of human evil. Nothing has ever compared to them. God willing, nothing ever will compare to them. It's not because the number of people they killed - I'm sure people will cite Stalin and Mao as having killed more people, and maybe they did....but the difference with them is that much of the damage they did was from sheer stubbornness or incompetence. What Hitler and the Nazis did was accomplished with brutal and ruthless machine-like precision. Their entire philosophy was a cold and twisted pursuit of perfection, and perfection will always be the arch-enemy of goodness.

Whenever anyone ever compares anything to Nazi Germany, they do a disservice to history.... it doesn't tarnish the target of their scorn - all it really does is trivialize to some small degree what the Nazis did.

The protest "might" have been peaceful. Or "probably" or "most likely".

You cannot say it "would" have been.

Goebbels is credited with perfecting the "big lie" technique, for instance.

The counter protesters on August 11 were most likely students from the university. And what were they doing? They were encircling the statue with their arms linked together. The marchers then encircled the counter protesters. If they had kept their distance from the counter protesters, in probability no fight would have broken out that night.
