Pa. Republican state legislator moves to impeach four state Supreme Court justices | Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

HARRISBURG — One day after federal courts declined to block the new congressional map from taking effect, a Republican state representative introduced resolutions to impeach the four Democrats on Pennsylvania's Supreme Court who ruled to impose the map in time for the May 15 primary.

My god, there is nothing too low for GOP to do, and their supporters to be OK with. This just proves they know they can't win on their hate and ignorance without cheating. How are there people that support these scumbags? And they have the nerve to pretend to be morally superior

This is like what the GOP in NC did when they were about to lose power so they can manipulate the system to keep power

If he can get the people behind him, what’s your problem?

BTW, the Democrats draw out the Republicans here.

They should be impeached. Their is nothing unconstitutional about gerrymandering. One can argue that the judges are guility of it themselves by the way they drew the new lines.

They didnt draw straight lines either. They just drew lines that they believe will give their party a better opprotunity to win, which is exactly what the gop did.

The difference here is that the first lines were drawn by people that were elected to draw them.

Judges are not elected to do that task and they should be impeached for trying to steal power from another branch of gov.

This kind of thing should happen more often.

It looks to me like California has the problem solved in a bi-partisan way.

The California Citizens Redistricting Commission is the redistricting organization for the state of California. It is responsible for determining the boundaries for the Senate, Assembly, and Board of Equalization districts in the state. The 14-member commission consists of five Democrats, five Republicans, and four commissioners from neither major party. The commission was authorized following the passage of California Proposition 11, the Voters First Act, by voters in November 2008.[1] The commissioners were selected in November and December 2010 and were required to complete the new maps by August 15, 2011.[2]

Following the 2010 passage of California Proposition 20, the Voters First Act for Congress, the Commission was also assigned the responsibility of redrawing the state's U.S. congressional district boundaries in response to the congressional apportionment necessitated by the 2010 United States Census. The Commission has faced opposition from politicians because "many safe seats in the Legislature could suddenly become competitive.

I'm totally in favor of bipartisan commissions drawing district lines.

Desperation that will go no where lol

Gerrymandering undermines democracy, and it should be eliminated everywhere. I instantly lose respect for proponents of the practice.

Partisan/biased gerrymandering should not be permitted in the Constitution of any state.

Demographic experts with specialized computer programs can redistrict any state fairly and without all the crazy bias angles we see now.

Let me guess: you've probably also dishonestly complained about so-called "activist judges" in the past. But despite that, have no problem with trying to stack the judiciary to get rulings you want, reason and justice be damned. (But impeaching Trump just to remove him, why, that would be a call for revolution, right?)

That about the size of it?

The answer isn't to cheat everywhere because "moooommmmm, he started it" or somesuch. It's to eliminate the cheating.

Nope.

More reason to hate on the GOP. The Stupid People's Party just keeps on giving.

Supreme Court is hearing a case to be determined by the end of June on gerrymandering in two other states. If they were to rule that these states are allowed to gerrymander, it is possible that PA would have to allow it as well under the 2010 census. Nobody seems to know how they will rule, but this isnt over yet.

Supreme Court gerrymandering ruling hangs on Justice Kennedy | TheHill

The problem I have with PA is that they didn't argue to eliminate it. They argued for gerrymandered districts that they found agreeable. If they want to eliminate gerrymandering they should grid the state off into equally populated boxes without regard to the demographics the lines disect. If they did something like that it would come with its own drawbacks.

If democrats or Republicans are opposed to how the lines are currently determined they should write laws to specifically define how they will be drawn. The only thing the courts did was take the Republicans right to draw the lines as see fit in order to increase the democrats chances of winning seats. They are saying that's fair because it accurately portrays the political leanings of the 2 party's in their state but even that argument fails when you consider independents. Shouldn't independents also be represented in the district ing by their way of thinking, but they are not. They also argued that it would be wrong to split up districts that are currently compromised mostly of miniorities.

I'm all for these judges being impeached because they are clearly doing the bidding of the democrats rather than serving justice. When judges behave like political operatives they should be removed from the bench. It is litterally their job to be as impartial as possible. They are suppose to be the referees between the party's not advocates of their personal opinions.

The GOP is simply becoming desparate. They realize that Trump is destroying th eparty and the simply have no backbone or courage to do a damn thing about it. Simply good riddens to useless party.
