Rick Tyler, a Republican strategist, believes Trump is going to fire Mueller at some point.
I'm personally not convinced this will be Trumps action, not yet anyways. Too many people have cautioned Trump not to do this, and it will echo Nixon in Watergate too greatly for the public to tolerate.
It doesn't appear Mueller will be able to tie any sort of conspiracy around Trump's neck. The most likely legal case Mueller has against Trump, is probably related to an obstruction of justice abuse. While that was enough to trigger articles of impeachment that had GOP support against Nixon in the 70's, it's not something Republicans today are going to impeach Trump for.
With that being the case, Trump can lie, ignore the grand jury subpoenas, refuse to be interviewed, pardon anybody close to him that is indicted, and the GOP will do nothing about it.
So he doesn't really need to fire Mueller, since the GOP will have his back regardless of what is discovered.
