War on Easter: Jesus Banned

What do eggs and bunny rabbits have to do with Christ...

Jesus likes to pet bunnies and loves eggs for breakfast.

Aussies do what Aussies do. Eggs... Easter, it is all good. Never read anything in the Bible about egg hunts or bunnies.

Trump and Bill O'Reilly said they won the war on Christmas, so with that battle over Fox needed to move onto something else to rile up their mindless listeners. The new red meat for the Fox lemmings is the war on Easter.

Council of Nicea in 325 talked about Easter. Well before the Anglo-Saxon Ēostre.

The earliest writing on the Christian Passover was 150 AD. Well before anything you have on a “pagan” Easter.

The Christian Passover is not Easter...it has nothing to do with Easter...I thought you studied religions...SMH...

Christ commanded..."Keep doing this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me. For whenever you eat this loaf and drink this cup, you keep proclaiming the death of the Lord, until he comes.” 1 Cor. 11:25,26

Christians were commanded by Christ to keep observing his death until he comes...he mentioned nothing about remembering his resurrection or Easter...I follow what Christ commanded, not traditions of man, which Paul warned against...

“Look out: perhaps there may be someone who will carry you off as his prey through the philosophy and empty deception according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary things of the world and not according to Christ.” Colossians 2:8

Yeah, I remember hearing this from my first in-laws. I agreed with them on very little, but this Passover thing made sense. If Christ died for us, we should honor that sacrifice, not his resurrection, which I dont believe happened anyway.

Did you not read the bible? It's common knowledge Santa told Marry she was giving birth to Christ child and the Elves require parents to buy kids lots of crap on Christmas in his name. Then a chocolate bunny betrayed Jesus in the garden for thirty colourful eggs. During the ascension he proclaimed buy fake grass in my name.

It's in Luke I think

If you ever smoked the fake grass you would be able to see the live bunny in your basket.

Easter is the most important and oldest festival of the Christian Church, celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ. What you should be complaining about is how Easter is held in the commercial context that it is.

Australia has its own separation of church and state laws. Cadbury is more accurately naming its product for why it is purchased, an egg hunt. Nothing to do with celebrating the resurrection of Christ. There are years when there is more candy sold during Easter than Halloween or Valentine’s Day. Maybe priests and pastors should be telling their congregation to focus on mass, not egg hunts and chocolate bunnies.

Why don't you make effort to speak of Easter for what is should be in its Christian form over how it is mostly celebrated in its commercial form. Same thing with Christmas.

Ash Wed is the 1st day of Lent...40 days before Easter Sunday...Easter Sunday is the day of Christ's resurrection...

Ash Wednesday has a non-Christian origin and was accepted into the beliefs of the Catholic Church at the Council of Nicaea in 325 AD. The council also settled upon the 40-day fast period as the standard length to celebrate Lent.

Pretty interesting how important the number 40 is in the bible. Jesus went into the desert for 40 days. In Noah's story the flood happened because of it raining for 40 days and 40 nights. Jews wandered the desert for 40 years.

You should attend this year, Calamity...your nearest kingdom hall will be observing this Saturday evening, Nisan 14, after sundown...it'll only last an hour or so...

I thought it was when Jesus was born, three elvish kings followed the bunny trail to the north star... eating the chocolate eggs they dropped behind.

I'm a leftist and because of my belief in the celebration of culture have no problem with groups celebrating sacred holidays, including Christian holidays. Merry Christmas and Easter services are fine with me. So is Ramadan. I do have a problem with religious hypocrisy, which is not all that uncommon in Christianity.

And just for the record, the first article states the "Jesus" ban was removed and an apology was given to the church.

Don't know, don't care, don't celebrate holidays. Nonetheless, it's symbolic of whatever they believe not you. You don't choose the symbolism for them. Suffice to say, the bunny and eggs represent something to them.

She's right, easter eggs and Santa Clause have nothing to do with Christ or Christianity. It's all commercialism.

The OP fails to see that the commercialization of Christmas and Easter have done more damage than any atheist liberal could ever dream.

Jeesh. This is so much BS. But of course ... Daily Mail and Fox. On a par with WND.

More Russian bot trolling as our Military installations are now under attack from suspicious packages. As our Nation is under siege from a CinC deconstructing our protections.

These people don’t get to take My Creator away from me, nor do they get to claim that GOD belongs to them with their views more ‘Holy’ than mine ...

I'm really not following you. Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection happened at Passover. The two are totally connected, and not just because they took place at the same time. I'm not going to go into it all here, but there is a reason why "Easter" is called Passover in every language but English and German.

As to me being a hypocrite... Yep, I'm guilty of that sometimes. I just don't think I'm guilty of hypocrisy in this thread, unless you have a different definition of that word than I do.

I did not call you a hypocrite...you did...

And I've already explained the difference and why one should be observed and the other not...because Jesus commanded it...

Okay.... that isn’t what we were talking about, though.

What else should a Christian be interested in except what Jesus commands his followers to do?

don’t disagree with you on this. I’m just having trouble understanding how you claiming Easter was a pagan holiday co-opted by Christians turned into why Christians shouldn't celebrate Easter and Christmas.

The answer is really very simple...did Jesus command it? Yes or no...

No, he didn't. I already said I don't disagree with you on that point. If you are trying to get me to say that Christians should celebrate Easter and Christmas, you're going down the wrong path. I'm Church of Christ. We sing "Christmas hymns" in July just to make a point. Haha!

Once again, that is not what we were talking about.

Not off topic at all since your OP was about banning Easter...if you are striving to follow Christ, it doesn't matter what denomination you are...your first concern should be doing what he commands...Jesus said Christians must worship God in spirit and in truth...

“God is a Spirit, and those worshiping him must worship with spirit and truth.” John 4:24

Do you really think he approves of us worshiping him with lies such as Easter and Christmas?

1) Our conversation was focused on whether or not Easter was originally a pagan holiday. That is, until you changed the conversation.
2) The "Church of Christ" comment was a joke. If you know anything about the Church of Christ, you'd get it.
3) You are using that verse out of context and applying meaning to it that isn't there. Jesus was answering a question from a Samaritan woman about who was worshipping correctly; Jews or Samaritans. His answer reveals that the Kingdom of God is open to all (including Samaritans) who worship him, regardless of place.
4) I think God cares less about whether or not people celebrate Easter and Christmas than most people do.

Ok, keep telling yourself that...

If they're pagans, then that's fine..

Come on, Elvira...are you being serious right now? All of these things are either symbols in the church or simply fun things that happen to take place at the same time. Who cares where they were taken from, they don't mean that anymore. Easter is supposed to be a celebration, and an end to the serious reflection that Christians choose to do during Lent. If it's nothing more than mindless tradition that gets them thinking about their faith, it's still not a bad thing. No one worships a bunny anymore than anyone worships Santa Claus. No need to be mean about it.

The fact that Christianity has borrowed from other religions to spread the Gospel doesn't bother me in the least. If you're attempting to spread a religion across the entire world, it's helpful to speak the language of the people you are trying to reach, and repurposing symbols and festivals that already hold meaning to them is an obvious way to get them to hear you. I don't see the problem here, nor the need to call the vast majority of Christians "pagans", because they observe traditional celebrations.
