He quit because the Trump administration was ordering him to verify numbers he knew were inaccurate in order to pin a fabricated scandal on the Oakland mayor (fake news).

government agency directed the employee to lie to Americans from the top but the person found it within them to do better

everyone just keep kidding yourselves and keep believing that the US & the world is not on a path to authoritarian rule ...........
 
Not surprising.

The only way to make the idea of mass deportation make sense is through lies.

Otherwise, the obvious route to go if you want to get rid of the most illegal aliens is to greatly increase focus on employers while only focusing on individual deportations when aliens have been convicted of particular crimes. Anything else is simply not cost effective and will generally not net the worst offenders.

But it's red meat for the base and we Americans sure do seem to like our general platitudes, no matter how useless they are in practice.

What was not mentioned, and IMHO should have been, is what the correct guesstimate (SWAG?) should have been - what is a normal or expected success rate and what was actually achieved. There is a vast difference between nearly 800 and none at all. The truth, which is important to this issue, is likely somewhere in between.

I'm continually amazed at how stupid people are that they continually buy the such obvious lies and such obvious dirty tactics. BUt I guess if they get their entire worldview from Fox news, that can explain why they believe the nonsense they do. The fact they really think illegal immigration is the number one cause of problems while they cheer on giving people who have 90% of all the wealth in this country, the people who have gained 86% of all new wealth created over the past several years, billions in tax breaks, is amazing. The very people that have kept wages stagnant, moved jobs overseas for cheap, almost slave labor, destroyed unions, make people work longer hours for less pay and benefits. The people that have never really turned tax breaks into jobs over the past 40 years of continually tax breaks. It's astounding that level of cognitive dissonance.
